I cant be arsed trawling the Second smallest team in Dumpdee's forum to see who said it but didn't one of their beauties predict after Zola's winner in the 1st meeting that the Dundee Barcelona would be "at least 10 points ahead of us come New Year?"

Imagine resting 8 players in preparation for your biggest home game of the season and then losing - no wonder they are hurting XD

Right, should be safe from a play-off place. Let's kick on and see if we can be sure of a top 6 place! :D

It'll be some achievement if we can hold on to second.

Does anyone know what the crack is with Euro places for next season?

Where does 2nd & 3rd place get you in the preliminary rounds?

2nd & 3rd place both go into 2nd round play off and scottish cup winner goes into 3rd round it looks like there are 4 rounds before the groups so would need to get past 2 teams unless we win the scottish cup.

wikipedia says all of the above go into 2nd round but SPFL site says different im inclined to think its the SPFL site thats wrong :)

Obviously at the start of the season we all hoped & maybe expected to be up there, but the fact we are, we are playing great in some games but in games like today we weren't brilliant we are still grinding our results.
We have got to be delighted and I am for one :)

I tried googling various things but couldn't really get anywhere with uefa's webpages. I think the situation is a bit better than that though.

Motherwell finished 2nd last year and went into the 3rd qualifying round. St Johnstone went into the 2nd round having finished 3rd. (By the way, why the hell can they not just call the first round the FIRST ROUND? Qualifying rounds, play-off rounds, it's confusing as f***)

Anyway, assuming the same is true for next year the team finishing 2nd would still have to negotiate two ties to make it to the group stage.

Let's just hope we can keep up the good form. Best not get ahead of ourselves.

I know you are joking but seriously 44 points at the split, in most seasons, would be enough for the top 6. Basically one more win possibly two and we are guaranteed to finish higher than last season.

If Hearts lose their next game and Hibs win theirs, then the top 6 will be a mathematical impossibility by next week, never mind catching us.

I would never wish such an ignominious fate on them though - we are playing Hibs next ;D

We are 43 points ahead of them but really should have beaten them twice and it would have been 55 points of a gap.

I really think Hearts should aim to finish the season on negative points. They could actually make history, and it's much more achievable than trying to stay up.

I think they'd have that.

Certainly way down there with the Tennants Sixes in terms of impressiveness and worthy of a place on their honours list. XD

Will this hamper their chances of winning that Champions League trophy they were on about a few years back?

Afraid so. After our heroic effort to increase the Scottish coefficient in 07-08, diddy teams like Dundee United, Hibernian, Motherwell and Hearts ruined it by being gubbed by teams of Albanian plumbers and the like.

Is it not a case of the co-efficient taking a few years to take effect. So the last year when timmy did reasonably well in the CL won't effect us for a year or two yet.

I think it's based on an average of the last five seasons. Or it used to be, they keep changing it every few weeks.

2 draws from their last 5 games for Barca 'B'

Maybe Jackie Mac is telling his players to play crap so they don't get signed by Juve, Everton, Roma etc

Aye but to be fair the weather hasn't been that great lately, the pitches have been poor, every team they've played against have been hoof ball merchants as well.

As a team that are looking at working on a 'project' similar to that of Barcelona, all these things have to be taken into account.

In Jackie we trust..., (from the 100 odd so that bothered to follow them today)
