View Full Version : Gary Bowyer on Jordan Rhodes

08-01-2014, 10:22 AM
This quote had just been proudly shared on a popular social network site by a basturd fan as evidence that Jordan Rhodes is worth far more than 8 Million.

Would anyone care to point out the flaws in this assessment by genius Gary Bowyer?

has he spelt Suarez wrong?

08-01-2014, 10:37 AM
Even Rovers fans think Jordan Rhodes is a bit lazy. There is no-one (certainly in this division) better than him at finishing, but he's hopeless as a striker on his own.

You play the big bucks for the strikers like Suarez who have everything in their locker.

Maybe its not his game, but if he could add the work rate and technical ability of say, oh, just grasping a footballer out of thin air, Danny Ings, then he'd be worth a lot more.

He's probably a better finisher than Ings, but he's nowhere near as good on the other things.

If anything, 8 Million is over priced, and his rumoured wages are very high for this division as well

08-01-2014, 10:37 AM
He's absolutely right - he is certainly no Carol.

08-01-2014, 10:39 AM
The biggest flaw would be that Suarez scored 33 goals in 33 competitive appearances for Liverpool during 2013.
Rhodes scored 31 goals in 50 competitive appearances for Blackburn during the same period.

08-01-2014, 10:41 AM
Well its like this Gary.

When you go out and pay top dollar for a road-racing motorbike and then use it for scrambling it might still win you a few races but you won't get your money back when you come to sell it.

08-01-2014, 10:46 AM
Well, perhaps he thinks giving the impression a huge bid is needed to buy Rhodes is better than giving the impression he can leave for a small fee?

08-01-2014, 11:05 AM
Ah the idea that paying over the odds for something automatically means the watermark for future resale should also be over the odds.

Silly get

08-01-2014, 11:21 AM
I_Wood_Lovett got it. The price you pay for something has nothing to do with the value when you come to sell it.

AndyattheTurf, I think you meant benchmark, not watermark :D

08-01-2014, 12:01 PM
Let's face it Gary...

All Rhodes lead to bankruptcy for the Mighty Barstewards

08-01-2014, 01:32 PM
Is Rhodes worth more than ?8 mill ? (they paid well over the odds, obviously - not for the 1st time... Corrado Grabbi et al).

He is worth what other clubs offer (and the basturds accept).

Any offers ?

08-01-2014, 04:33 PM
Like anything in life the true value of something, or in this case the person is what someone is willing to pay.

08-01-2014, 04:42 PM
I'd say his major flaw here is that he is comparing Rhodes to Suarez

08-01-2014, 06:06 PM
The main issue here is i read the opening post in my head with Gary Bowyer's voice narrating it and i fell asleep half way through.

08-01-2014, 06:29 PM
They paid 8 million for him :? .

I thought they still owed Uddersfield 6 mill, or have I been misinformed.

08-01-2014, 06:37 PM
It's simple really Mr Bowyer,Rovers vastly over payed when purchasing Mr Rhodes in the first instance in a desperate and futile attempt to gain promotion at the first attempt. Now a year further into his current contract and having scored a number of goals in that time,he is now valued by everyone else other than Rovers at a more realistic price ;)

08-01-2014, 07:39 PM
Jesus, you lot are boring.

This same broken record gonna come out every transfer window is it?

Each to a man repeating the same guff over and over. Yeah, yeah, no one ever in the future of mankind is gonna pay 8 million+ for him, only Rovers are stupid enough, even in 10 years time with inflation he won't be worth that. Maybe about half. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.

So, am I to assume that you will all stand up and admit how far off the mark you were if/when JR gets sold for 9 million plus?

Am sure you are all people of integrity and will be big enough to say how wrong you were, over and over and over again for some 12 to 18 months.

Yeah right, I will be back to see you all when it happens. Looking forward to the wall of silence.

Lots of flapping gums as per usual on here. Never any with balls or conviction to back it up.

Rovers in over-exaggerated meaningless statistic shocker...

08-01-2014, 10:19 PM
I think there's a chance they'll get their money back, ?6-?8 mill is probably about right. I have a feeling he might go this window and they seem very giddy about Gestede.

08-01-2014, 10:22 PM
I thought this was going to be another thread about homosexuality then!

08-01-2014, 10:31 PM
i see a flaw in your arguement. mention rhodes, and he`s overvalued at 8m plus, but then mention a potential ings sale(who`s not even produced for a full season yet!), and your talking 10m plus..

who`s deluded here..? reality is rhodes 8-10m, with ings around the 4m you sold austin for..

08-01-2014, 10:34 PM
There isn't a flaw.

Read my post above to educate yourself on the crucial differences between Rhodes and Ings.

08-01-2014, 10:36 PM
Something's upset Dunny at post #17.

08-01-2014, 10:36 PM

08-01-2014, 10:44 PM

Its like you lot believing he has a "special bond" with Rovers.

For 30 grand a week, I'd have a "special bond" as well!

08-01-2014, 10:47 PM
Dunny delude?
I'm not having that.

Fat tw@t?

08-01-2014, 10:47 PM
i don`t believe he has a `special bond`. i believe he has a `contract`..

08-01-2014, 10:48 PM
Excuse me the pretend Jordan Rhodes, but you have previously said that the real Rhodes is no good playing as a lone forward, because he can't hold the ball up and bring others into play. So much so that you wanted Leon Best playing instead of him.

Although I don't think Ings would be good for us as a lone forward he can hold the ball up and do a bit with it.

(I haven't mentioned any brass)

08-01-2014, 10:52 PM
what i say on rovers mad, and what i say on here..

one has nothing to do with the other.. ;)

08-01-2014, 10:54 PM
You could have just said.. 'I'm full of sh*t'. ;)

08-01-2014, 11:03 PM
c`mon though, 10m plus for ings `bot`? he`s only done it for half a season(after being valued at about 1m pre season). you sold austin for 4m..

do the math..

08-01-2014, 11:09 PM
I don't need to do the 'maths' (when did you become a Yank?) as Ings will go for whatever another club and our club agree on.

I'm hoping for a desperate club with no financial sense to come in for him in the summer.

08-01-2014, 11:16 PM
"I'm hoping for a desperate club with no financial sense to come in for him in the summer."

Yeah, some of our lot have been hoping we would go in for him too. :D

08-01-2014, 11:19 PM
"what i say on rovers mad, and what i say on here..

In the sense that you actually think Ings is a better player than JR, but have for some random reason said he is worth half as much...

... oh I get it. As you were. XD

08-01-2014, 11:20 PM
"Gary Bowyer on Jordan Rhodes"

Shouldn't that read "Thomas Hitzlsperger on Jordan Rhodes"? ;D

08-01-2014, 11:23 PM
'Yeah, some of our lot have been hoping we would go in for him too'

On the ball Dunn. ;D

"On the ball Dunn. ;D"

One of us has to be, that tubster won't be on one any time soon no doubt.

Don't worry, we will wheel him out the kebab shop just in time for you guys tho. I know how much you love him to make an appearance. O:)

09-01-2014, 02:56 PM
"AndyattheTurf, I think you meant benchmark, not watermark "

No. Where he lives, the park land next to the river is underwater and you can't see the bench any longer. It is the watermark from now on! :D
