In the squad for tomorrow's game

10-01-2014, 10:24 AM
Excellent news!

10-01-2014, 10:25 AM
And I did look at the thread suggesting headlines for the signings :D

10-01-2014, 10:27 AM
I knew I should have copyrighted my headline suggestion when the signing was finalised :D

Great news though

10-01-2014, 10:28 AM
Welcome to Burnley! Here's to a winner at Ewood!

10-01-2014, 10:28 AM
Great news, good signing and will surely boost our promotion credentials. Now if we sign a quality midfielder I'll truly be in heaven :D

10-01-2014, 10:29 AM
At last we have lift off. An added bonus of a relatively early in the month signing.

Let's get cover for Jones now and keep hold of our two prize assets. If we do then I think we have a real chance of going straight up, given how hard we are to beat.

10-01-2014, 10:29 AM
Clearly the one that Dyche has wanted all along - and we've seen off Leeds and one other club to get him.

10-01-2014, 10:30 AM
And welcome to our first Austrian international

10-01-2014, 10:32 AM
All good things are worth waiting for.

Welcome on board Ashley.

10-01-2014, 10:34 AM
Seen off Leeds! I really like that. I mean, they're so big!!

10-01-2014, 10:35 AM
"Welcome on board Ashley."

I say, welcome on board Ashley.

10-01-2014, 10:37 AM
Excellent news indeed!

well done to all concerned! :star:

10-01-2014, 10:39 AM
I've had my fingers and toes crossed for this one for ages. Well done the board and welcome Ashley.

Being a striker and having the Barnes he does of course have a lot to live up to. However I'm not too greedy and will just settle for the odd hat-trick instead of a five goal haul :D

10-01-2014, 10:44 AM
Well done to the Manager, I imagine he has worked very hard on this. Lets hope all goes to plan as I think we have got ourselves not only a top player but a top Manager as well.

10-01-2014, 10:45 AM
Judging by the reaction of the Seagulls fans, we have made a good signing.

We like players who give 100% :D

10-01-2014, 11:00 AM
Congratulations and welcome Ashley

Sean Dyche- you are the Man and in you I trust.

Little old Burley - a small town team right up there with a Great chance of promotion,

Proud to be claret

Brilliant ... well done to the recruitment team to wrap this one up so soon.

This way we have a match fit player available from tomorrow instead of missing out on the January games with a deadline signing.

10-01-2014, 11:01 AM
To be fair P_N_W and I know your comment is said tongue in cheek but the comments from the Brighton fans really do point to a good signing. Comments on his hold up play being great, some would value him over ?1.5m, works very hard for the team (he'll have to in our team) and the general feeling they shouldn't be selling is all very positive.

Let's hope Mr Dyche has landed another good 'un!

10-01-2014, 11:08 AM
Cracking signing and the real positive is that he was clearly Dyche's first choice replacement for Pato all along. We have held our nerve, got lucky with injuries and can now feel really confident for the rest of the season. One additional midfield cover loan signing and no significant exits and we have given ourselves a real chance of challenging for the top two.

10-01-2014, 11:47 AM
Excellent news

10-01-2014, 11:50 AM
So we have bet the ranch on Barnes!

Seems a complementary fit that!

Ranches and barns go together well.

10-01-2014, 11:54 AM
Grate news. I just can't stop thinking Hash Browns.

sorry for that it really is great news. Another who can play down the middle or support wider. Our Sean knows what he's doing.

10-01-2014, 12:09 PM
Im trusting SD that this lad is what we need not much about him on youtube apart from a few penalty's ...and now a fit Ross Wallace will be like signing another...its starting to look possible UTC :D

10-01-2014, 12:29 PM
At last.

Welcome on board Ashley.

Well done Gaffer for beating Super Weeds to him.

10-01-2014, 12:35 PM
I for one am very happy with this signing! ;-)

10-01-2014, 01:03 PM
Excellent news. Well done SD and the board for showing ambition.

10-01-2014, 01:07 PM
"Brilliant ... well done to the recruitment team to wrap this one up so soon".

mmm I suspect the recruitment bloke will need a good lie down and a week off work after this!!;D

Seriously though I am really pleased to have another quality body on board as we all are. Right age and experience. Brighton fans saying he needs a lot of chances but I would have said that about Ings and Vokes before this season so we will see. Welcome to Turf Moor Ashley. WE obviously wish you and your family all the very best with your move.

10-01-2014, 01:36 PM
Very good news.

His big weakness seems to be in front of goal, and yet we've already seen this season with Vokes and Ings what confidence plus canny man-management can do for a striker who is underacheiving in that department.

Apart from that, he's got a bit of everything in his game, seems to have an excellent work ethic and is young enough to improve and be yet another striker who realises us a profit in due course after giving us good service.

10-01-2014, 01:44 PM
Absolutely great news and a nice long contract too.

Really cannot wait for tomorrow!

10-01-2014, 01:51 PM
I think this the first signing Dyche has made where a transfer fee was involved?

10-01-2014, 01:59 PM
Was just talking to a mate about this - I think the last player we brought in for a fee was Vokes, 18 months ago. The only other one I could think of from that summer who cost a fee was Shackell.

Re the contract length - thats actually one of the few positives of buying players in January - its standard for the contract to be 3 full seasons plus whatever is left of the current season, which means you've got 2 full years to improve players before you have to start worrying about cashing in before their value declines.

10-01-2014, 02:33 PM
Welcome aboard, AB. :)

10-01-2014, 02:36 PM
Happy wih this one. Most Brighton fans seem disappointed, and good experience for his age

10-01-2014, 02:46 PM
What cracking news!! Given everyone a boost.

We still need another good midfielder and then we can really start to believe.

10-01-2014, 03:02 PM
Servus Herr Barnes, und willkommen in der schoneren Welt der Turf Moor. Ubergeben Sie bitte meine Gruse nach Wien

10-01-2014, 04:27 PM
Brilliant result. I often believe that getting a player who suits your style of football is more important than just getting a good player. From all I've seen and read on Ash the Bash, he's right up the Clarets street. Couple that with SD's ability to get the best out of players and he could be the difference we need to maintain that push.
I feel a hell of a lot more confident today.

And Welcome

10-01-2014, 05:01 PM
Excellent news. We now have 21 days to get the best possible price for Ings.

Let the bidding commence!

10-01-2014, 05:59 PM
I'd love to see Ings, Vokes and Barnes in the starting line up tomorrow, and would double love it, if it happened at ewood - against their sometimeswonky defence.

10-01-2014, 06:29 PM
"Clearly the one that Dyche has wanted all along - and we've seen off Leeds and one other club to get him."

Delighted with this signing. Sean has waited, and he has his reward for being patient. I imagine this fella will be (like Pato was) the first line of our defence, harassing defenders and forcing them to lump it or lose it.

The fact we are a bigger draw than Weeds is particularly satisfying.

10-01-2014, 06:45 PM
Bobinho Signed a player with a proper last :D

11-01-2014, 11:01 AM
I emailed my mate who is a Brighton ST holder for his opinion on Barnes. He came back with:

"Bit of a Marmite player, you either love or hate him. I love him, big loss, think he will do well with you. 100% effort gets into good positions and seems to think ahead so that others do not seem to read his play. Downside is he does not score as much as he should given the opportunities. He has had a thankless task however as we have had so many injuries to strikers that he has been ploughing a lone furrow.
Good buy for you. Hope he does not play against us on the 28th!"

Interesting observation this: "... seems to think ahead so that others do not seem to read his play." We just need to get someone on the same wavelength as him, or maybe get him on the same wavelength as the rest of our team.
