Can Ashley Barnes play against his old club on 28th or have they inserted a clause in his transfer contract?

Don't think you're allowed to put those clauses in permanent deals, might be wrong.

Gentleman's agreement?

lol, pretty sure that he will be playing barring injury, never heard of a permanent transfer that has taken place and the player then is forced to sit out a game a month later because of a clause.

Didn't we stop John Mullin or Alan Lee playing against us for Rotherham?

I'm almost sure you aren't allowed to do it these days, whether expressly or tacitly. I'm sure Barnes will be playing against Brighton (and I think I saw a quote where he indicated he was looking forward to the game).

Used to be permissible, isn't any longer, but a gentleman's agreement can still be accepted. Hasn't in this case.
