Rumours shaping up that he's on his way from Reading as a loan. Sounds like he's out of contract though so maybe we've signed a free agent?

Versatile can play centre half, full back or midfield. Likely cover for Marney.

From Twitter, when Reading signed him from Fulham.

Perfect, especially considering Trips has a hamstring problem.

I never rated Baird until I saw him play for Fulham in that 1-1 draw at the Turf in 2009. He was very good that day.

Decent signing. Been a good player over the years.

Match fitness/sharpness might be an issue tho. Doesn't appear to have played a competitive match since 23 November.

No frills utility player. Always seems to do a good job. Always looks like he needs a decent night's kip though.

A good solid professional, we could do a lot worse! Great for the squad and gives SD a variety of options. Leave it with SD, he knows what he is doing!

Perfect fit with Mike Duff as they played together for N. Ireland.

Get well soon, Trips. Your people need you.

Why cover for Tripps? Tweet above suggests he would not be able to get up and down as a full back. As someone else said above, cover for Marney and Jones?

His contract ran out at Reading so we'd be signing him on a free to a short-contract. - view external link (No)

You've just got to trust Sean Dyche, haven't you? I'd trust him even if he signed me.

Experienced utility player is just what we need right now. Any addition that SD rates is welcome as cover.

Makes sense. We're where we are on the back of a solid defensive foundation. Last thing we need is taking a punt on an untried kid at the back or in the middle in the hope he looks good. If Tripps is out for a few games, (if), and if Marney gets another yellow, we need someone who can do a job, no frills, no liability.

I'm confused here. Is this going to happen or is it just another 'empty' rumour?

Be a good signing if it comes off.

Basically, a better version of David Edgar.

3 positions filled with good, reliable, and cover. Exactly what you want during the run-in.

From a Reading forum

"After Reading failed to secure a contract with Chris Baird, Burnely are set to agree one with him instead.

The Northern Ireland international had a contract with the Royals until January, but delayed any extension until he returned from an ankle injury. He has been training with us since this, but after we failed to agree a new contract, has reportedly opted to join the Clarets.

Baird made nine appearances for with us, with his last appearance coming in a 1-1 draw with QPR in November. The 32-year old mainly played in centre midfield under Adkins, despite making his as a centre back with Fulham and Southampton in his career.

If the reasons behind no deal for Baird are due to financial constraints, then it obviously should cause some concern and therefore stress a need for a new owner in by the summer. Some have hinted we may need to cut the wage bill, is this an early sign of us doing so"?

Sounds like a good signing to me. Could plug a few holes between now and the end of the season (not in a John Terry way).
