I didn't dare mention this in my match preview or before the game but 11 years ago to the day the result was

BURNLEY 4 WATFORD 7

Have we conceded 7 goals with Dyche in charge yet?

Time really does fly, I remember that game all too well.

Gareth Taylor with a first half hat-trick, Chopra scoring 4 (or was it 5?).

I remember posting a thread on here after that game with the topic title 'Time Up Ternent'. Great as he was for us overall, I still feel it should have been the end of that season that he went.

"Chopra scoring 4 (or was it 5?)"

It was 4 - and did you know he used to play for Newcastle? :D

Yes, yes. I was there. I'd forgotten about this one (for some reason I can more easily remember 0-0 draws against Cambridge United etc). Obviously it was a mental game. I got terribly drunk in Colne later that day. :blue:

Well, that's what Colne is there for really.

Thanks CBL, would never turn down a wooooosssh in any circumstances

CT pulled me up last week for making jokes on here, so I now take anything he says as serious

A dozen or so South West clarets were treated to a special day out at the turf that day.We had a tour, meal and posh seats in the Bob Lord stand thanks to the very generous Trevor. An incredible game and the smartest i have ever been attending a game, we were all suited and booted.

This was before mobile internet took off and I was getting half and full time score texts.

When 4-5 came through for half time when I was driving, I thought either the wife was making it up or the system was broken.

It got worse three weeks later, another one where we really threw one in.

I think my Newcastle comment has flown over someone's head

Hadn't we loaned Glen Little out around that time too? Burnley fans were far impressed around that time.

Hadn't we also already been beaten by Watford not long before this game,in the FA Cup Quarter Final? After a very flat performance?

Still remember the 'You've got more goals than fans' chant at the very small Watford following.

I spotted that on the 'On this day x years ago' section. It brought back a horrible memory. Was it that season Wednesday did us 7-2 at Burnley and Grimsby 6-5 at their place?

EDIT: apaologies for post #11. I'd just got in following a drunken celebration of our 10 point lead round the bars of Lagos.

Stan's defensive record in those last couple of years was pretty incredible.

Haven't checked the stats exactly but I'd be surprised whether we had 2 consecutive seasons shipping that many goals in our history.

The Grimsby 6-5 win was the one where Sky used to show a comical piece of defending between Branch and Gnohere in the opening titles of one of their football league shows - so we got a nice reminder every single week !! Seem to remember a young Steve Kabba ripping us apart that day (or night).
