Planning to make the short trip this Friday for a great day out and it got me wondering about the good old days of "Special Trains" to away matches.

Many come flooding back, Liverpool away when I only came back with one training shoe, Crystal Palace when there were fans stretched on the baggage holders above the chairs and more fondly the return from Blackburn when the safety chord stopped the train every 500 yards.

I'll never forget climbing off the train somewhere near Rosegrove only to find it starting up again and running back. I always chuckle to this day as it reminded me of the final scene from "Von Ryans Express"

Anyone else like to share their stories and do you think Friday will re kindle fond memories?

Being stoned by Grimsby fans as the train travelled along the beach after our FA cup win.

Being very relieved to get on the train after the long walk from Elland Road after our 4-1 win.

I enjoyed the footie specials.

Up the Clarets... all the best for Good Friday.

Have vivid memories of travelling by train to watch the Clarets at Burnden Park in the mid-80's
The walk back to Bolton railway station after the game during which the Bolton 'fans' ilfiltrated the police escort and it all kicked-off was just a starter for the rest of the journey home.
For some absurd reason the train made a stop at Blackburn station.
Blackburn had been at home to Man City and the platform was absolutely rammed with less than friendly Mancunian faces.
The verbals started & it didn't take too long before the windows started coming in, followed by the then fashionable golfing brollies being used as weapons on us. I recall that the City fans were trying to get ON the train ... and not to shake us warmly by the hand!
Got off the train at Burnley central and looked back down the carriages - not many windows left intact.

they ran a special train to Liverpool in 82 for the Milk Cup Semi...from Burnley Central...

at Liverpool made to line up, single file with plod encouraging with batons...buses to the ground with friendly locals showing a fabulous "welcome"

coins during the match,,...then a very unfriendly trip back on a freeeezing cold train back to Rosegrove if I remember rightly...

but what a night...

good old Burnley put up a good fight!
