View Full Version : Saints make formal approach for ings !

27-06-2014, 05:19 PM
Was only a matter of time. - view external link (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2672506/Southampton-want-Burnleys-Danny-Ings-replace-Rickie-Lambert.html)

27-06-2014, 05:25 PM
Yes if we can have Jay back in exchange ;D

27-06-2014, 05:28 PM
I'm sure daily mail has reported something similar few weeks back, are they ever right.

27-06-2014, 05:30 PM
So we are to Southampton what Arsenal are to City feeder club, bloody annoying >:(

27-06-2014, 05:33 PM
Up the price to 10 million, they've got money in the bag now

27-06-2014, 05:35 PM
Ings has 1 year left on his contract, if he wants to leave for the club he supports that doesn't put Burnley in a strong negotiating position.

27-06-2014, 05:37 PM
If he wants to go, I'm sure he will

But you will have to meet the valuation, for all the reasons that are in the article.

27-06-2014, 05:41 PM
If they are serious let's get the deal done now to give Dyche time to spend the money as he see's fit

27-06-2014, 05:43 PM
If he's not looking like he's going to sign a new deal the reality is he's going to have to be sold.

They've got money burning holes in their pockets.

None of us want this but he's clearly turned heads and is destined for bigger and better things.

Unfortunately I fear the contract position will reduce us to trying to get the max fee and it wouldn't surprise me if that process is already underway.

27-06-2014, 05:45 PM
Is there a 750,000 pounds clause in Danny's contract?

27-06-2014, 05:45 PM
If true, he's gone.

27-06-2014, 05:49 PM
I really don't get it,Shaw and Lambert sold for mega bucks yet Danny only worth 8 mill...summat wrong here :?

27-06-2014, 05:50 PM
We are going to get relegated :blue: :blue: :blue:

27-06-2014, 05:55 PM
Would have thought that Danny would be worth as much as a left back!

27-06-2014, 05:56 PM
"We are going to get relegated :blue: :blue: :blue:"

27-06-2014, 06:01 PM
Daily Mail article includes: "However, Burnleya€™s valuation of the 21-year-old is proving problematic, as Ings will be available on a free transfer in twelve monthsa€™ time if he cannot be persuaded to sign an extension with the Lancashire club."

And then it adds: "Burnley would ideally like to keep Ings at the club but there is also a recognition that they risk losing him for nothing if a deal cannot be struck this summer."

Shows what they know - he will not be available on a free next summer.

27-06-2014, 06:06 PM
Sounds like Daily Mail guessing after Saints selling their top players.

That said it is highly likely they will be interested BUT there is no reason if that's the case then we can start an auction and get other clubs involved in the bidding and up the price. If Saints don't want that then give us what we want now and put up or shut up as £8 million is too low IMO.

Whether he has 12 months or 12 years left on his contract it doesn't matter if more than one team want him.

Whilst they are at it they can pay us all the money they owe us for Jay Rod which should put us in a strong position with cash flow available whilst bidding for other players.

27-06-2014, 06:07 PM
If Ings lets his contract run down Burnley won't get much in the way of compensation for him.

Southampton for example only paid about £2 million compensation to Crystal Palace for Nathaniel Clyne.

27-06-2014, 06:11 PM
Another full back who won't be scoring many goals for you. Strikers,English strikers are a premium commodity.

27-06-2014, 06:15 PM
That doesn't make much difference when they come to deciding a compensation amount for players under 24 if they don't sign contracts.

27-06-2014, 06:16 PM
I wouldn't want anyone else now for 8 million quid over Danny Ings. Therefore I say don't sell and let his contract run down. If he leaves for free in May so be it.

27-06-2014, 06:19 PM
Very cheesed off to see this. At the end of the season (Wigan, Ipswich, Reading) I thpught Danny was playing with a real arrogance...in a good way. Looked like a player who had realised just how good he was and with the potential to be a major asset for us in the Premier League.
I'll be massively, massively disappointed if he goes but suspect he will because that's what always seems to happen to us. Hope we are doing as much as we sensibly can to persuade him to stay and , given that Southampton will be very flush following their two inflated player-sales, I would be wanting A£10M+ add-ons for the Championship player of the season and England U21 striker.

27-06-2014, 06:23 PM
Re : Branfoot

Each Premier League season is worth upwards of £70m to clubs.
The strength of the negotiating position for Burnley is that he has a year of his contract left. £8m is not a realistic value for an injury prone striker who has never played top flight football with 12 months left on his contract so that would never be an honest expectation for Burnley, they already know they'd have to settle for less. Added to that fact - he can't leave for nothing next season as he is under 24 so there will be some recompense.

I suspect Burnley's strength of position comes from saying 'No Sale - Do what you please in a year Danny Lad"

27-06-2014, 06:24 PM
And Ian Branfoot , please take a moment and consider how incredibly annoying your posts are to us. Happy for you that your previously busted-flush of a club have benefited from the sort of sugar-daddy funding that gravitates to clubs in larger population centres but the somewhat smug tone of some of your posts is somewhat lacking in self-awareness given the level of our achievement in joining you in the PL.

27-06-2014, 06:30 PM
He'll either sign a new contract or he'll be sold...it's beginning to look like it may be the latter given that he's not yet extended.

Let's hope not...he can't be replaced with the same quality, and a forward line of Sordell and Ashley Barnes isn't going to give Prem defences any sleepless nights.

Plenty of time yet though.

27-06-2014, 06:38 PM
Southampton = England team! end result you decide?

27-06-2014, 06:48 PM
Southampton=England team=sold to Man. Utd. or Liverpool.

27-06-2014, 06:56 PM
Why would he want to.
No Lambert, Llallana, Shaw or probably Jay Rod if Spurs come in for him.

The saints could well struggle next season.

I understand it's back home, but if he were to leave us I believe it would have to be to a club with a better than decent chance of staying up.

27-06-2014, 06:57 PM
We are small fry! 25% -40% sell on clause needed.

27-06-2014, 06:58 PM
Whether Danny is investing in property in Lancashire or is looking for somewhere to live I couldn't say but I do know for a fact last week he went looking round an house in Rossendale with intent on buying!
Hopefully it means he is stopping with The Super Clarets!

27-06-2014, 06:59 PM
Is that a anagram of dobo?

27-06-2014, 07:01 PM
"Sing it " Rats!

27-06-2014, 07:06 PM
Take it your not from Nelson or China then dobo?

27-06-2014, 07:09 PM
Burnley should just tell them to p**s off or ask for something silly like 20m, especially if Shaw is worth 27m.

I think Danny is worth more than 8m to us, even if he only helps us to stay up and then leaves for a much smaller fe.

27-06-2014, 07:09 PM
As long as this is sorted sooner rather than later... it's not a massive deal. Providing we get adequate replacements.

27-06-2014, 07:09 PM
Can't really see the attraction of a move myself. With everyone leaving are they a better proposition than us? He might get a few more quid for a year but another good season here and the world's his lobster.

I'm not convinced that playing for your hometown club is such an attraction for an ambitious young player these days either - surely his sights will be set higher.

27-06-2014, 07:10 PM
Lost you there rats sorry???

27-06-2014, 07:13 PM
Are you a giddy yank?

27-06-2014, 07:17 PM
I always think you need to sign your replacements before your stars move on.

So go on then: why might be the next Danny Ings?

Anyone in league one or two looking promising from last year?
Or a loan signing like the young striker at Utd we were linked with last year?

27-06-2014, 07:27 PM
Just be aware the same paper was exclusively reporting in the last fortnight that Toni Kroos had signed for Man U as all the other papers were reporting Van Gaal had declined the deal...

27-06-2014, 07:27 PM
I would't lose any sleep over a Daily Mail story.

27-06-2014, 07:37 PM
"I would't lose any sleep over a Daily Mail story."

I disagree...

"Big hair, don't care! Helen Flanagan sticks to her blow dry ritual as she dresses down in a floaty kimono and denim jeans"

absolutely terrifies me.

27-06-2014, 07:58 PM
We are going to get relegated!

No we are not!

27-06-2014, 08:16 PM
I'm more concerned that, in spite of trying several times, I can't sing dobedobdobodo's user and make any sense of it still

27-06-2014, 08:27 PM
He can score goals for us and play for England, surely has more to offer than Welbeck, and also harrasses defenders far better than lazy Sturridge.

Stay with the clarets Danny.

27-06-2014, 08:50 PM
Dwellbeck is not fit to lace Danny's boots.
Roy Hodgson'sbum boy, dun't even start at Manure. In fact he cud 'nt start a ****in argument

27-06-2014, 08:52 PM
Southampton = England team! end result you decide?

End result?
You are surely taking the p!ss.

(At least West Ham won the World Cup for us)

27-06-2014, 09:05 PM
Notrigsbyscat do you remember the Martin Dobson chant D O , D O B ,D O B O, DOBO. Just say the letters apart from the last DOBO.

27-06-2014, 09:13 PM
The chant is in time with the start of the dreadful England Team World Cup song 'Back Home'. - view external link (www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzdcFEHre4Y)
