Just read on Uncut magazine's twitter page that Bobby Womack has died. Perhaps most famous for writing the Rolling Stones hit .. It's all over now and more recently his work with Damon Albarn and Gorillaz.

will spend the day listening to his stuff... - view external link (//www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOg_8hCC4u4)

Yep, apparently. Great talent. He didn't just write its All Over Now for the Stones to make a rubbish cover of,he recorded it with his brothers - the Valentinos. Last few years, sadly, he has been struggling.

Another of the soul legends has gone..singer and prolific songwriter. What a fantastic singing voice he had.

Bad news indeed. Used to share lodgings in Burnt Oak, North London with a guy who was a Derby fan, trainee priest and absolutely obsessive Bobby Womack fan ! Across 110th Street is indeed a classic track and nicely used on the Jackie Brown soundtrack (a great album btw).
RIP Bobby Womack.

This is truly shocking, wasn't long since his new album was out and playing glasto with Damon Alburn. Across 110th street is and always will be my favourite track.

Very sad day.
One of my favourite soul singers.
He had an interesting life and produced a great body of work.

'Fish ain't biting' used to be one of my favourites..I used to listen to Piccadilly Radio back then when I lived in Manchester, and Andy Peebles could not get enough of Bobby Womack on his soul programme.

Wonderful Glasto set from last year.

Andy Peebles!!!!! that brought back memories. Also I didn't know that Bobby Womack recorded Fish Ain't Bitin'. I've only got that by Lamont Dozier if it's the same tune.

I love classy music and Bobby Womack had class written all over him and will be sadly missed.

RIP Bobby

Devastated! One of the truly great Soul Men has departed. The Poets albums contain probably some of the best soul tunes of all time. "Through the eyes of a child" sends shivers down my spine every time I hear it. R.I.P Bobby. The news seriously saddened my day today.

11..Quite right Corky..my error..Lamont Dozier indeed ( of holland-dozier-holland fame)

Ok then..two other favourites were 'California dreamin' and 'lookin for a love'...not that many of those top guys left really, off the top of my head Stevie Wonder, George Benson, Wilson Pickett, Sly Stone, Jerry Butler, and Booker T.
- only one of the Isleys left, one of the FourTops and one of the original Temptations..:(

hampsteadclaret: "only one of the Isleys left"

Not so. Rudolph Isley, Ronald Isley, Ernie Isley and Chris Jasper are very much alive!

28-06-2014, 09:39 PM
Correct Jeremy..I guessed it rather than checked it..:blue:

I did know that several 'Isleys' had died..ly, O'Kelly in 1986, Vernon when he was 13, and Marvin in 2010 from diabetes...however there were quite a few brothers, and several are still with us, good news..:)

- sorry bit late with this one, but as in post 20 there was a BW tribute on Three Counties Radio on Sunday afternoon between 4.00-6.00pm on the John Leech soul programme. Lots of Bobby Womack music in the two hour show [also on Radio Essex].
- this will be on i-player for five more days.

Without a doubt - sad, sad news.
