Whether he deserved it or not (he did score some decent goals earlier in the competition) then presenting it to him after he's just 'failed' in the biggest game of his life seems a little sadistic to me. I was surprised Leighton Baines didn't get it XD

I saw a report that it's tough being a pirate these days as incidents are really down this year. You should spend less time on here and pursue the dream of getting that Golden Parrot award.

Yes, I need to sharpen up a bit.

If you're on the Isle of Wight ferry, be afraid, be very afraid. XD

Personally the 'stand out player for me was Navas the goalkeeper. I think he was Columbian. He was outstanding. Messi wasn't.

I have seen the judges scores and the top three are as follows:

Messi 6 votes
Fred 5 votes
Rooney 1 vote

Whether he deserved it or not - it's totally out of order for Blatter to come out publicly and say he was surprised Messi won it - complete insult to Messi and de-values the whole thing. How Blatter has survived this long is beyond me... >:(

I agree about Blatter's incompetence, but the reality is that the comments he made about Messi are the first sensible thing he's said for years

I thought Messi was an odd choice but Im struggling to think of an alternative.

1. Rodriguez
2. Muller
3. Mascherano
4. Kroos
5. Neuer

etc etc

All of whom worked well within a team structure but no one stood out in the sense of, say, a Maradona or Cruyff of the old days (which is what I was getting at).

Mascherano was brilliant, but the golden ball doesn't go to defensive midfielders.

He deserved it just for the injury he sustained making that tackle on Robben in the semi final. :O
