SUPPORTER NOTICE - JIMMY MCILROY STAND

If you are located in the Jimmy McIlroy stand, upon arriving to the ground you will have either a blue or claret card attached to your seat. At a time indicated by the PA announcer we respectfully request all fans in these areas to lift up their card to spell out “Our Turf” in the Upper stand and “BFC” in the lower stand.

This visual will add to the pre-match atmosphere of the game and we are sure will look fantastic in front of the numerous cameras from global broadcasters.

We are requesting that this is held up until the PA announcer indicates to put the cards down. Once finished, we ask that the cards be harmlessly placed under the seats and discarded at halftime or post-match.

Thank you for your support

I take it all ST card holders in the JM stand will be credited with an amount as recompense for providing pre match entertainment ?

If not why not sit there, minding your own business and wait for the teams to come out.

It's a a footie match not a ferkin pageant

Worried about the potential for these cards to be disposed of harmfully. Is this a risk worth taking?

I sit in the Jimmy Mac Upper and I'll be doing this, FWIW. I reckon it'll look quite good on telly.

This reminds me of a story I read in David Niven's biography. He and his mates sent official looking letters to all the occupants of a large apartment block in Los Angeles to say that the electricity board wanted to do a test and at midnight on a particular day each apartment was told to either switch on or switch off all their lights. The time came, all the lights were switched on or off - and the whole apartment block spelled out "F*** OFF" in lights!

Sounds like something from mid 30's Germany

"Their Turf Their Prices" or "Beer Money Tastes Charged At Champagne Prices" I feel would be more apt

"how does holding up a bit of card help the atmosphere?

Well firstly you can sort of all flap em at the same time to create a sort of Rolf Harris effect... No sack that!

Best is to roll them up to create sort of megaphone to help with singing

Oh dear I'm embarrassed already

Reference classing it in the same category as goal music I'm hoping we have to endure that 3 times or more tonight..

I love how stuff like this is 'tinpot' yet the Champions league finalists of 2013 do it regularly.

Quite sad that some choose to find something to moan about in anything the club does.

LancasterClaret
18-08-2014, 09:46 AM
I don't think its a moan, its more of a preference.

I agree it looks very impressive when the "Yellow Wall" does it.

Ours is going to look nothing like that though, is it?

Darthlaw
18-08-2014, 09:50 AM
I don't know, apparently its a sell out isnt it?

If a minimum of 90% of seats are filled and everyone partakes, I can imagine it looking impressive.

If, however half the stand is empty then yes, it will look tinpot.

Time will tell. All I know is that the club have dropped many a ******* over the years worth moaning about, this occasion is not one of them.

I can't believe today of all days we still have the negativity that this board seems to thrive on now. Either there are some very bitter people because they don't have a ST or they are not Burnley fans at all, in which case go pedal you Bol!locks some where else>:(

Are there any other boards for the Clarets that are not as soul destroying as this place has become?

stalbansclaret
18-08-2014, 11:15 AM
Whilst I am predisposed to resist "sheep" like behaviour I do think that people hostile to this idea, today of all days, are very odd. As SD would say best not to over think it and hold the card up. Could be visually impressive and the only thing that will make it tinpot are non-participatory curmudgeons.
Mind you my 84 year old dad sits in the JMU and there is zero chance of him getting it right !

claretspice
18-08-2014, 11:20 AM
Completely agree with Quoon that this is a messageboard for expressing opinions, and given that Quoon has been a vocal defender of the club on its transfer policy, its a tad ironic that someone's tarred him with the brush of someone who moans at the club come what may.

I disagree with him on this initiative though. Yes, its a gimmick, but its a great way of displaying the claret and blue brand to the world, the JM is the right place to do it as there are loads of kids in there to whom this will appeal, and it lasts approximately 20 seconds.

No problems with this from me.

Alp12Mac
18-08-2014, 11:47 AM
The Club could always put out a statement saying:

"Despite trying to create a family atmosphere and give the kids something to talk about, we actually give up trying to engage with the most curmudgeonly bunch of fans anywhere in the Footballing World. We sincerely hope your Pie falls to bits and runs down your shirt, that is if you were fortunate enough to get one, ha ha ha"!

What a set of miserable gits! A lot to do with the Premier League these days is marketing the image. Being broadcast to millions around the world with our claret and blue colours through the Jimmy Mc I think will look fantastic!

Or let's choose not to propel Burnley's image thoughout the world and continue to get, "Hammers" or "Villa" shouted to you down the street whenever you step out of Europe. Still can't believe the amount of negativity on here sometimes. Nobody is asking you to wear a pink dress and dance around FFS, get with it.

On a side note I do agree goal music is pathetic, scrap that shiiite!

The club defend the use of goal music saying that "everyone seems happy enough dancing around when it starts blaring out! " Which is kinda like asking a cocaine addict whether drugs are great immediately after hes snorted a big fat line.

The negativity is at an all time low on here, it really is.

We are about to kick off our Premier League season campaign, at home to one of the biggest clubs in world football, and people are moaning about the fact the club has tried something different, in the hope it may aid the atmosphere or develop the image of our club to a worldwide audience.

Try looking forward to it and enjoy it. We could have been playing Blackpool, Brentford or Rotherham at home, with gate of ~10,000.

Instead, the turf will be packed (sold out), loud and colorful.

Im looking forwards to it. If its done as the players are walking out of the tunnel walking towards it with all in chorus of no nay never - think it could be a good way of bringing a similar atmoshpere we had when we played Chelsea at stamford bridge in 2008.

"We are about to kick off our Premier League season campaign, at home to one of the biggest clubs in world football, and people are moaning about the fact the club has tried something different,"

where is the moaning? there isn't any on this thread, so where is it?

honestly, its almost as though people are so desparate for there to be people moaning about things so they can moan about the negativity that they're seeing moaning where there is no moaning.
