Well we'll all struggle to get parked, it will be like a homing beacon for muslim taxi drivers.

Does that mean I won't be able to park at Tesco and walk around the town centre anymore?

Do you know an opening date for the new Tesco?

This is actually great news for the town centre and cinema goers. I went to see the new Sin City film last night and Eva Green in 3D look immense.

I was going to watch Sin City but decided just to walk around the town centre instead. It had the same impact.

New Tesco opens November (13th I've read but can't be sure) with 540 parking spaces. Planners had it written in to the permission that the the car park can be used free of charge for up to two hours.

I mention "short term use" of Forge Island in the article and I suspect that it'll be a council run car park until any development happens.

A cinema on forge island is only plan C or D.Plan A is looking far more likely and is a mutch more exciting prospect for the town.A cinema will be built probably on the current Parcelforce/sorting office site.
A developer has also now aquired the burned out Khyber pass/Musscan site and work will begin soon.
The town centre is on the up at last.

Sounds interesting.

Personally, I'd like to see the bus station move to Forge Island.

Dunno about the sorting office site. The owners seem happy to sit on it and take the money from parking since they got knocked back for a supermarket.

The sorting office site is not the car park but the building that is still occupied at the corner of Westgate and Main street.

Will the Council introduce Muslim only sessions like they have at the St Anns leisure centre.
Rothbiz - maybe you could suggest girl only sessions at the cinema so that they can attend without being fearful of being groomed or threatened by Pakistani Muslim Males.
Excellent news in essence - wonder how they got the option to buy at such a ridiculously low price.
Are you sensing a lack of trust in all things Council in my post?

Yeah. A lot of the land is owned by the same company - Satnam.

I did ask the Post Office if they were planning to close the Main Street site when the big new building opened at Magna but they never answered...

Getting any investment in Rotherham now is going to be really difficult.

Would you invest in a business here?

Would you move your family here?

No

Anything positive done by the council, even on a totally different issue like this, has been tarnished, and they've only themselves to blame.

I'm not giving up though. I feel the shame but Rotherham is still worth standing up for.

I can't see Rotherham ever getting a Cinema. As soon as planning goes in, Sheffield council will object.

Spot on and rather than our council standing up to them and telling them to F off they will roll over and have their tummy's tickled and the plans will slowly be killed off.

The clues in the title ROTHERHAM council not South Yorkshire council, start looking after the town's interests and sod Sheffield, Barnsley and Doncaster.
