Burnley have played in a cup final on this day, and have also played in a cup tie when the opposition manager was running scared and didn't turn up.

You have to start with a final and it was back in 1978 when we travelled to Oldham for the first leg of the Anglo- Scottish Cup Final. The Burnley fans were on the open end at Boundary Park on an evening when the temperatures dropped below zero.

The pitch was like a skating rink and the player you least expected to cope with it turned out to be the star of the show. That was Steve Kindon who scored twice in a 4-1 win. We had a rarity too, a Jim Thomson goal, with Peter Noble scoring the fourth.

I seem to recall Kindon suffering a broken nose too, but a 4-1 lead to take into the second leg at home left it all set up for a carnival at Turf Moor a week later.
