Not sure if been posted elsewhere, but do we know what happened to him??

06-03-2015, 11:19 PM
I read at the beginning of the week that's he is no longer training with us

07-03-2015, 02:28 AM
I thought ABBA broke up years ago.

07-03-2015, 07:34 AM
I don't think we've heard the last from this and something might happen soon, or so I am told.

07-03-2015, 01:41 PM
"I don't think we've heard the last from this and something might happen soon, or so I am told."

Potentially, which is why I left it at saying he wasn't training with us any longer. Nothing confirmed but I did hear there was a potential for him to be coming back, maybe in the summer.

07-03-2015, 03:05 PM
What's the reasoning behind that?

I haven't a clue if he is or isn't good enough, but if we think he's worth signing in the summer, wouldn't it be better to have him in now, considering our lack of midfield options?

Even if not ready for the PL, he could be brought in to integrate into the squad, which would one assume would benefit him and us for next season, whichever division we may be in.

07-03-2015, 03:57 PM
Just something I heard. Nothing said by club at all on it.

07-03-2015, 04:02 PM
I understood that he is currentky out of contract, with the Norwegian season running April to November.
If we leave it till the summer he will either have signed for someone else or not have played any football for 9 months

07-03-2015, 04:32 PM
If he's been here training with us there's obviously not been a queue waiting to sign him

10-03-2015, 08:53 AM
Signing before Saturday according to Chris Boden.

10-03-2015, 08:55 AM
He's set to sign for us - view external link (http://www.burnleyexpress.net/sport/burnley-fc/latest-news/clarets-set-to-sign-fredrik-ulvestad-1-7147981)

10-03-2015, 08:57 AM
Aye tybfc just told us.

10-03-2015, 08:59 AM
Will he be our very own Morten Gamst Pedersen? :)

Anyway, it's not much of a gamble since there's no transfer fee and he'll be on low wages. Hopefully he'll be given a chance at some point.

10-03-2015, 09:04 AM
Fair enough, its another body and hopefully he can have an impact - think we probably have to be realistic about what he can achieve this season but with a bit of luck he's one that can begin to have an impact over the medium term.

As others have said he's a bosman and I can't imagine his wages are huge, so its very low risk.

10-03-2015, 09:08 AM
What I don't understand is why he was released by his hometown club. It doesn't sound like he lacks talent or work ethic. Taken from Burnley Express:

"Torgrim Bakke, a writer for the Norwegian newspaper Sunnmrsposten, had said: He had a breakthrough season in 2013 and is a very talented central midfielder.

His play was a bit more uneven last season, but he elevated his play in the last half of 2014.

He is a great player by Norwegian standards though Im not sure that hes ready for the elite leagues of Europe yet.

But he is a physically gifted player. His stamina is one of his biggest assets.

He can cover a lot of ground, has nice skills with the ball and is at his best when hes bringing the ball up the field at high pace.

Hes not a weak player, but he is a bit small compared to the Premiership-standard. So that could be a challenge.

10-03-2015, 09:25 AM
I think he left out of choice, to fix himself up with a bigger club, didn't he?

10-03-2015, 09:29 AM
I haven't read anything about that, though I imagine most articles with such information are in Norwegian. Google Translate certainly comes up with some inventive stuff!

I did read somewhere that IFK Goteborg were interested though I'm not sure how accurate that is.

10-03-2015, 09:46 AM
Norwegian papers saying we will have to pay 300,000 in compensation to his old club.

10-03-2015, 09:49 AM
Don't know him and nothing against him but I have enjoyed the fact that we are a 100% British and Irish squad.

10-03-2015, 09:58 AM
Unfortunately our all British squad isnt picking up enough points

The Bedlington Terrier
10-03-2015, 10:20 AM
Nor way will we pay a fee for him!

10-03-2015, 10:26 AM
300,000 what? Kroner, Euros, or Pounds?

10-03-2015, 10:27 AM
Just signed

10-03-2015, 10:30 AM
Deal until end of 2017/18 season

10-03-2015, 10:30 AM
300,000? Can we afjord that?

10-03-2015, 10:35 AM
Aalesund have the rights of a compensation on about 300 000 because Ulvestad leaves to a foreign club and has been educated at Aafk.

About Ulvestad:
He is a top Tippeligaen player and has been one of Aalesunds most consistent players the last 3 seasons with a decent goal tally.
He is mostly a defensive minded player, with a good touch and a great vision for the game. He is a playmaker type and always calm on the ball. He almost never miss-passes or takes bad choices on the ball and his motor is incredible.

He left Aafk because he wanted to go on with his career, he was NOT released.

I`ve got common friends with Fredrik and have followed him since he was 14-15 and he has progressed very well.

If you have any questions, just ask.

You have got a hell of a talent here! Hope you give him playing time.

Best wishes from Norway.

10-03-2015, 10:44 AM
Good news and let's hope the lad settles in swiftly.

Thanks for the update.

'top Tippeligaen player'

So he's our new top tip!

Welcome Fred

"Aalesund have the rights of a compensation on about 300 000 because Ulvestad leaves to a foreign club and has been educated at Aafk."

Identical situation to what would face us if Danny Ings opted to move to a club in another country.

Article now finally on site. - view external link (http://www.clarets-mad.co.uk/news/tmnw/ulvestad_signs_in_856580/index.shtml)

10-03-2015, 11:06 AM
Thanks for the info Aafklover :) Hopefully he will do well for us.

10-03-2015, 11:11 AM
Post 19. Hear training ?

10-03-2015, 11:24 AM
I'll certainly follow up on Burnley from now on. Personally I'm an Arsenal fan and have been there a lot of times. Would love to visit Turf Moor and watch the game against the Gooners.

What I forgot to mention is that he`s also a decent spot-kick taker. What I am most excited about is how he'll adapt to the culture and the pace of the PL, but I`ve got no doubts as he is a perfect professional.

If your familiar with Jonathan Parr at Ipswich, he came from Aalesund as well. They have a similar work rate and passion for the game.

The new Remco VDS on a three year deal...

10-03-2015, 11:26 AM
"The new Remco VDS on a three year deal..."

I don't know whether he'll be good enough for us but I think we can say with some certainty that we've done more work ahead of the signing that we did with any of Remco, Penny, Guererro, Nimani or Richards.

10-03-2015, 11:31 AM
A-ha !

10-03-2015, 11:32 AM
"A-ha !"

Wasn't that the previous manager? :D

10-03-2015, 11:32 AM
Unfair to compare him to VDS though I'm not sure if the post is tongue in cheek (it's missing a smiley).

Ulvestad is young and has had a successful trial period with us. I don't see how the two are comparable.

10-03-2015, 11:38 AM
I have no knowledge about VDS, but in Ulvestads case he is a very stable player. He is not the type of player to fade away in games. He will prove his worth for you Im sure! :)

10-03-2015, 11:41 AM
the accounts between aafklover and the Norwegian journalist differ somewhat.

I hope aafklover's is more accurate, and not just pride in "one of their own" peeping through

10-03-2015, 11:43 AM
"Unfair to compare him to VDS though I'm not sure if the post is tongue in cheek"

I'm sure it was tongue in cheek

10-03-2015, 11:49 AM
Comparing him to VDS , FU :)

10-03-2015, 11:50 AM
It was tongue in cheek gents don't worry :-)

10-03-2015, 11:51 AM
'If you have any questions, just ask'

Do you know if he likes Echo and the Bunnymen?

10-03-2015, 11:52 AM
"It was tongue in cheek gents don't worry :-) "

Phew :)

10-03-2015, 11:53 AM
Yes, but what we all want to know is..

How good is he on Football Manager? Any good? ;D

10-03-2015, 11:57 AM

What is the air speed velocity of an unladen swallow?

10-03-2015, 11:57 AM
..."and his motor is incredible"

Does he drive a Maserati? :)

10-03-2015, 11:58 AM
"Do you know if he likes Echo and the Bunnymen?"

Of course, it`s one of his favourites!

10-03-2015, 12:01 PM
"Does he drive a Maserati? :)"

Sorry about my English. I'm trying here!
Would "his engine" be more fitting?
As far as I know he`s driving a Toyota Yaris, as Toyota delivers the cars to Aafk.

10-03-2015, 12:12 PM
I went to Norway once having heard the tales of how expensive things were.
Imagine my surprise therefore when I went to buy some beer from the supermarket and 4 stubby cans were priced at around 3 in Norway money. My trolley loaded, I went to the checkout.
It turned out they were 3 each.

10-03-2015, 12:12 PM
"What is the air speed velocity of an unladen swallow?"

The average cruising airspeed velocity of an unladen European Swallow is roughly 11 meters per second, or 24 miles an hour.

10-03-2015, 12:16 PM

10-03-2015, 12:19 PM
Yes engine would have been more fitting but we all knew what you meant and I was just having a bit of fun.

As for your English it is excellent and a damn sight better than most who post on here. :)

10-03-2015, 12:22 PM
He's Norwegian. They all speak English, you know. (Well, most do - I met one last time I was there who didn't speak English. Mind you, he was 18 months old.)

I've been to Alesund several times - do I get a brownie point? Only for a day on a cruise, though. I've never seen the football ground.

10-03-2015, 12:33 PM
Have we ever had any Freds play for us other than Fred Smith?

Maybe donkeys years ago when Fred or Frederick was a popular?

10-03-2015, 12:34 PM
Brownie point to you DSR, Alesund is a beautiful city!

I`ve got a flat in town there close to the famous stairs to the mountain top. Guess you were there when you were on your cruise.

I`ve often been jogging the stairs to the top listening to the heavy breathing British tourists, tbh it`s quite funny. "You`re crazy running these steps" is a common line I get.

There`s actually a lot of british tourists in the town at summer. I recommend all of you to come!

About the stadium it is called Color Line Stadion and has a capacity of about 10700. Built in 2005.

10-03-2015, 12:47 PM
Welcome to Burnley and England Fredrik, lets hope you enjoy your career with the Clarets :)

10-03-2015, 12:58 PM
"Have we ever had any Freds play for us other than Fred Smith?"

We've had Fred Barron & Fred Taylor as well as Frediric Nimini - then, according to Stan Ternent, we had Fred West.

10-03-2015, 01:05 PM
Comes highly recommended by Rune Vindheim and Frank Petter Kval.

This should breathe new life into the section of Clarets fans who perpetually misspell our player'ss but have had precious few opportunities of late.

"This should breathe new life into the section of Clarets fans who perpetually misspell our player'ss"

Shouldn't that be "players's"?

10-03-2015, 01:27 PM
"Weren't ABBA Swedish?"
AHA were Norwegian.
Clarets madders have seen a beautiful picture of the art noveau centre of AAlesund town, posted by Miffy49 in the Autumn pictures thread.

Welcome to the forum AFKlover from a fellow Norwegian. I saw the Clarets at Emirates this season, very impressive stadium. Welcome to Turf Moor on April 11.

10-03-2015, 02:39 PM

I think the white car parked outside the ground is Fredrik's :)

10-03-2015, 02:41 PM
"I think the white car parked outside the ground is Fredrik's"

Brilliant :D

10-03-2015, 02:42 PM

That's rubbish - Nimani has been with us for years and covered every inch of turf.

Oh no, sorry...was getting connfused with Nematodes!

10-03-2015, 02:59 PM
Slightly off topic: Rune Vindheim's son Andreas got a transfer today from Brann to Malmoe. Anyone remember Rune?

10-03-2015, 03:32 PM
Just signed him on a 3 and half year deal

10-03-2015, 03:37 PM
"Just signed him on a 3 and half year deal"

See post 24 at 11:30 elwaclaret

"Anyone remember Rune?"

He had a couple of decent games for us but then went to Hartlepool for a while.

Last time I saw him was in 2005. He came over for the Burnley v Liverpool FA Cup tie with gabriel10 who posts on this board.

10-03-2015, 03:41 PM

He was talking about Rune...we have signed him too.

:D :D :D

10-03-2015, 03:44 PM
Apologies elwaclaret - I saw that post before I saw the Rune one, serves me right for not reading through.
