League results might not have been the best from those we've played in 7th March but we've played two big FA Cup quarter-finals on this day, and we didn't go out of the competition on either occasion.

The first of them saw us make a trip to Sunderland for what was then the 4th round in 1914. It ended in a 0-0 stalemate with a Turf Moor replay to come to decide who would play Sheffield United at Old Trafford in the semi-final.

Moving on to 1961 and this time a semi-final appearance, our first since we'd reached the final in 1947, was confirmed. Having drawn 0-0 against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough, we played the replay on this date at home.

An attendance of 48,894 was at Turf Moor to see Jimmy Robson and Jimmy McIlroy score in a 2-0 win to take us into a semi-final against league leaders Spurs at Villa Park.

League games on this day have numbered 17. We've won six of them, draw three and lost eight, both scoring and conceding 26 goals. We hit six in the first two wins, both
