View Full Version : A wonderful day at Ewood

We've had good days and not so good days on 9th March over the years, but there is only one place to start as we look back and that is exactly one year to the 9th March 2014, the day so many Burnley fans finally saw us beat our local rivals Blackburn for the first time.

"They're not hurting us anymore," I wrote at the time after seeing goals from Jason Shackell and Danny Ings give us the one win we craved more than any other whilst also taking us eight points clear of third place in the table.

Despite the dreadful conditions placed on us by the police, there were 4,640 there to witness it and countless more jumping up and down in front of their television sets. What a fantastic day.

I've linked my match report below should you feel like reliving the day when we ended the long run, and just remember, in just over two weeks time it will be five years since they last beat us.

Nothing else comes close, but we've won four other league games on

'I'll play for the Clarets one day!'

Just a tremendous, tremendous day Just went a bit misty-eyed thinking about how it felt that afternoon..marching towards the Premier League and sweeping them aside on the way. Doesn't get any better than that.

Just a simply fantastic day as it always is winning there and with the added bonus of knowing that we were heading for promotion.

Regarding Beresford - did he not save something like half the penalties he faced playing for us?

09-03-2015, 09:33 AM
No figures but he did seem to save a lot of pens

It was an uncomfortable day for me at Ewood last year, having flown back from Bulgaria without a ticket I ended up sat in the Riverside with my son (a Blackburn fan - I know, bad parenting etc.)so I had to be quiet despite my joy. All was well until the final whistle when I got sussed and had we both had to be led out by stewards (who were very helpful). Great day though.

Ladies and Gentlemen: a composition to the tune of "The day we went to Bangor"...

Didn’t we have a lover-lee time the day we beat the B@5t4rd5
Rhodes hit the post, Ings was the toast
And now we’re in the premier league

They were **** at the back and poor Uncle Jack
Was turning in his grave.
It’s a wonderful thing as Clarets all sing “Look up B@5t4rd5” - view external link (http://bit.ly/1oBqV49)

"I ended up sat in the Riverside with my son"

Not a pleasant part of the ground. I knew quite a few Burnley fans who were sat on their hands in the Jack Walker.

Superb pics BigRedrose - I bet the view of the Darwen End at the final whistle looked good from your seat in the Walker.

Well that's just silly talk, you'd have to be at Ewood to take the pictures.

'are you returning to the couch for next season in the championship BOT..?'

It's a big couch is that lower tier of the Longside.

Yes I'll be in it again like last season.
