Duff 7 Solid
Shackell 7 Solid

Boyd 7 good first half but faded
Jones 7

Solid defensive performance and a reasonable team effort. Crowd seemed quiet again especially after first quarter of game.

With respect Roger giving Ings 4 nonsense . That means that you thought he was our worst player by some distance - baffling .:s

Jutkiewicz - completely lost track of the ball in the air twice

We were really good today against a really good team who didn't play well because we didn't let them. Kept Kane completely quiet, barely saw anything from Eriksen and our two big strikers gave them a horrible time. Thought Ings was poor in fairness, but still with occasional flashes.

Heaton 7 - one excellent punched clearance

Trippier 7 - did well against the much taller Chadli and put some good crosses in
Duff 7 - nice and solid as usual
Shackell 7 - composed performance
Mee 6 - a bit too negative in possession

Boyd 7 - excellent first half but less impact in second
Arfield 7 - grew into the game and had a very good second half
Jones 8 - constantly in their faces breaking up play (MoM)
Barnes 7 - a couple of very good crosses that should have led to goals

Ings 7 - really should have scored when clean through
Vokes 8 - won everything in the air and held the ball up well

Jutkiewicz 4 - simply not good enough at this level

Heaton 7 - handling good from a few decent long range efforts
Trippier 8 (MOM) - thought he was the best player on the pitch
Duff 7 - solid
Shackell 7 - ditto
Mee 6 - ok but glad they didn`t play with a right winger
Boyd 7 - good game but should have pulled trigger a couple of times though
Jones 7 - another good game against a fit and strong midfield
Arfield 7 - one of his better games but would have liked to see him on the right wing putting pressure on their slow centre back / turned left back
Barnes 7 - good game. He`s clearly not a winger but I thought he was playing well and deserved to play down the middle for the last 20 minutes with Vokes (and instead of Ings)
Vokes 7 - really good first half but didn`t get service in second.
Ings 6 - missed our best chance but generally little or nothing came off for him and he frustratingly gave the ball away too many times trying too much.
Juke 5 - Not blaming Juke but didn`t really understand the substitution from Dyche. Think game was cryi

We are a fit side but when you come up against a side who work as hard as Spurs did then it`s a surprise that you are not bringing all 3 subs on

It isn't when you see who we've got on the bench.

I totally agree with daveisaclaret's assessment above in that I've heard a lot of people saying "Spurs weren't at the races". It's not as simplistic as that. They had all their best attacking players playing, they were on a decent run and their key striker came into the game brimming with confidence and we nullified their threat.

Eriksen was extremely quiet much due to the energy of our midfield and Duff has only just removed Harry Kane from his pocket.

A lot of people seemingly disappointed we haven't won, but I'm more focussed on the performance, which gave me plenty of encouragement going forward. UTC. We can do this!

treadmillclaret
05-04-2015, 05:46 PM
Ward and Kightly decent enough to come for at least 15 minutes with some of our players flagging or things just not coming off for the likes of Danny.

We needed someone to have a go at Chiriches - and Kightly was really the only option on the bench to do this and has shown in spells that he can.

They had a real makeshift defence today and we seemed to lose impetus in the last 25 minutes - they were`t exactly peppering our goal either I know.

IMHO I think there are times this season when we have not used the bench as well as we could...and before anyone shoots me down - no I don`t think I know more than Dyche !!

Heaton 6 - one good punch, little else to do
Trippier 7 - solid at the back and some reasonable crosses
Duff 9 - MOM. Immaculate display keeping Kane away from danger area
Shackell 8 - only a nudge behind Duff
Mee 6 - ineffective going forward but more solid at back than in other Spurs games
Jones 7 - held his own in midfield
Arfield 7 - looking good in that position but not as good as Marney at getting the ball forward quickly
Boyd 7 - great energy to keep Rose quietish but got no change out of him going forward
Barnes 6 - great energy and pressing but not the pace or trickery to test their novice right back 2nd half
Ings 5 - bad passing and finishing, trying hard but doesn't seem to have that "clarity of mind" that Dyche likes to quote. Why start touting yourself around before your current season has finished? Not just him mind. Sterling is too.
Vokes 6 - not much joy out of Dier who played well

Jutkiewicz 5 - not a game for the big men, surprised Dyche didnt bring others on

Heaton 8 - top class marshalling of his defence.
Trippier 8 - cannot remember anything getting past him and linked well with his teammates
Duff 9 - his performance speaks for itself
Shackell - 8 When I see players like Jagielga playing for England I think why not our captain
Mee 8 - epitomises our fighting spirit. Was at the opposite end in the second half but when Spurs found space for a cross towards the end a great blocking tackle was made. Not sure it was Ben but to give him any less than the other defenders would be wrong I feel.
Boyd 7 - Spurs seem to be much more aware of him in the second half but he finished strongly and had a couple of decent efforts on goal
Arfield 8- really growing into his central midfield role and very influencial in snuffing out many attacks
Jones 8 - Showed a lot of composure in tight situations and working as well with Arfield as he did with Marney. So unselfish

Sorry CT. I gave a couple of half points as I felt no one was outstanding but I wanted to emphasis Tripps as my MOM. I have also been critical of Mee in the past but he had a solid enough game hence my other half point. I'll keep to the rules in future.

Heaton - 8 - A couple of very good first half saves from shots he'd have seen late, and a excellent, decisive second half punch to deny Kane a goal, but by no means overworked.

Trippier - 8 - They kept trying to close him down early, but he still delivered 5 or 6 dangerous crosses and absolutely dominated Chadli.

Mee - 6 - Solid enough with one particularly fine block to deny Kane, but this was a day when a left back with just a bit more quality going forwards might just have made a big difference.

Duff - 8 - Excellent all afternoon.

Shackell - 7 - See Duff, but he was sloppy in possession more than once and it might have resulted in our downfall.

Jones - 7 - Nice and neat in possession, though they found space behind him too much in the first half.

Arfield - 7 - He's becoming a pretty reliable performer in the middle, which particularly if we go down, augurs well for next season.

Boyd - 7 - The usual shift, created our best chance for Ings when he won the ball, might have had a

A fair summary from Spice, a feeling of 'one that got away'. Felt like Spurs were on an off day, partly because we nullified them and partly because some of their passing was sloppy and shooting was woeful.
In this toughest of seasons, it was a winnable game, but another tremendous effort which was marked by a terrific ovation from the fans at the end.

Heaton 6 Not a lot to deal with
Trippier 7 good first half
Duff 8 he played really well MOM
Shackell 8 solid and organised
Mee 7 good defensively not going forward
Boyd 7 great first half but faded
Jones 8 got stuck in more today and played really well
Arfield 7 played well considering in the middle
Barnes 6 some good stuff but no real quality
Vokes 6 satisfactory
Ings 5 some selfish play with his head down and loses possession often. A good player but far too overrated by many IMO. Far from the finished article but only young. From a football point of view I think he could be moving too early.

Jutkiewicz 4 offered what I thought he would - nothing. Pointless substitution.

Agree with poster who suggested Kightly should have been brought on with Barnes pushed forward if we were going to try and change things to win this.

I enjoyed the game today but we just lacked quality again in the final third.

Very good effort today, but just lacked that touch of quality to score a goal. The good news is that Spurs created almost nothing and that's successive home clean sheets against top sides - nothing to fear from Arsenal next week despite their terrific form.

Heaton 7 - Half-spilled a couple but recovered well and generally had the easier shift of the two goalies.

Trippier 7 - That quality of delivery has to step up a touch, but otherwise typically very good and certainly won his battle with Chadli.
Duff 9* - Barely put a foot wrong and it's now quite clear he should have been back in the side earlier.
Shackell 8 - A comprehensive defending display from the whole back line. Kane is the country's form player and never got a sniff.
Mee 7 - Solid enough, still not enough quality on the ball when attacking.

Boyd 7 - Needed a better final ball.
Jones 7 - Used the ball as intelligently as ever.
Arfield 6 - Contributed to our excellent defensive shape, but had a quiet first half.
Barnes 7 -

Yet another decent side is "off the pace" playing us. That's not because teams fail to turn up. It's because we'e doing our job well. A shame we didn't get a break because in terms of chances created we created the better ones in the game.

Heaton 7 - not much to do but a couple of good saves from distance and a great punch 2nd half
Trippier 7 - gave Chadli not a sniff although wasted too many corners for us
Duff 9 (MOM) - outstanding - his pocket is qgetting quite full now, what with Van Persie, Aguero already in there ;-)
Shackell 8 - one hairy pass but otherwise pretty solid
Mee 7 - did well defensively
Boyd 7 - excellent first half and so so close at the end to nicking all three points
Arfield 7 - a good showing again in the centre. Startting to look more comfortable and although his distribution for there isn't quite what Marney's is, we're looking a decent unit in the middle
Jones 8 - worked hard all game and looked to keep posession all the time
Barnes 8 - great game. worked h

I thought Vokes was fantastic, and short of a goal did everything you'd expect him too.

Heaton - 7 - little to do

Trippier - 7 - good performance both ends of pitch
Duff - 9 - kept the hottest property in the land in his pocket all day
Shackell - 8 - excellent again
Mee - 8 - rarely gets the recognition he deserves - he was excellent Sunday. The only disappointemt was the number of times he looked up with the ball at his feet and had nobody to hit

Boyd - 6 - good first half, disappeared second
Jones - 7 - played well
Arfield - 8 - reads the game and does the simple things really well.
Barnes - 7 - good game but too narrow at times, hence my Mee comment

Vokes - 8 - won far more than his share in the air, too often team mates not close enough to pick up the pieces
Ings - 7 - sometimes players go through phases where they try too hard to make things happen, and I think Sunday was a case in point

Juke - 5 - lacking in confidence and goals

the_quoon
07-04-2015, 11:49 AM
heaton - sound handling and a strong punch near the end

trippier - 8 excellent at both ends

duff - 9 kane is the kind of centre forward duff excels against and sunday was no exception

shackell - 8 as solid as duff with a couple of odd passes knocking a mark off

mee - 8 excellent again, i see he's getting grief for his use of the ball again which wasn't helped by the lack of an option in front of him. in those cases, he actually used it well and retained possession.

jones - 8 tippedy top

arfield - 7 see jones but with the odd overhit pass

boyd - 7 if he was as good with the ball as he is without it he wouldn't be playing for us

barnes - 7 doing a decent job but he comes inside so much it gives us few options on the left, not that its particularly his fault

ings - 7 despite missing that good chance early on he didn't hide, was still our main threat and worked the goalkeeper three times more than any other burnley player.

vokes - 7 still finding his way back a little bit but

Heaton 7 Never troubed, good distribution
Trippier 7 few wayward cross' but solid
Shackell 8 Rock Solid
Duff 8 As above
Mee 6 Poor in possession but defended well

Boyd 8 All action performance
Arfield 7 good energy and a few decent runs
Jones 6 not comfortable on the ball/under pressure
Barnes 7 lots of effort, good 2nd half

Vokes 8 looks strong, good hold up play.
Ings 7 I dont get the criticism, played well good 1st touch, running the channels well

Jutkiewicz 4 non existent, shouldnt be anywhere near the squad.

Just to add a tiny bit of balance re: Ings and Vokes, a "5" is "below par". It isn't attrocious or abysmal (that's a 3), and it isn't even poor (a 4). Its below par.

I gave Ings a 6 (average) because I thought he was a threat all afternoon despite missing that chance. However, I certainly don't think its outrageous for people to give him a 5 if they view that a little differently - and it is only a little differently.

I'm one of the biggest supporters of Vokes on this board and have been for years, but I'm obviously seeing something a bit different to the majority in his performances recently. I thought he was a bit below par on Saturday, a bit static in his link-play, and marked him accordingly. I accept he won lots of headers, but those headers barely ever retained possession. Sam is at his best with his back to goal when he takes the ball into his chest and lays it off rather than flicking it on with his head but that requires his movement to be a bit more decisive to get him half

arfield - 6 - drifts out of the game too much for a central midfielder, some good tackles but...

boyd - 7 - his usual all action performance

barnes - 8 - excellent crosses, good target man, should have been allowed to play centrally for the last 15 mins

ings - 7 - 3 shots all on target and superb work rate. Since he had his head turned in January he hasn't been the same player - but he's still fighting for the cause

vokes - 6 - not quite sharp enough and a bit one dimensional

jutkiewicz - 6 a like for like change was not the one we needed, still he did ok

Heaton - 7 Solid

Trippier - 8 Best player on the pitch

Duff - 8 Itís nuts how good he still is

Shackell - 8

Mee - 7

Jones - 7

Arfield - 6 Extra mark for the Burnley crowd, encouragement instead of grumbles after a couple of rare mistakes

Boyd - 7 If he stops Arsenal playing to this extent heíll get an eleven from me.

Barnes - 6

Ings - 7

Vokes - 6

Looking forward to this Saturday already, Arsenal have looked so slick recently. Hope a couple of teams around us slip up and then go for it in those last six games.

This thread seems to have attracted the usual hyper-sensitivity regarding low marks, but one thing I would say in defence (of myself ratings Ings as a 5 for example) is that the benchmark is now Premier League standard. A 6 in this league may be a 8 or 7 in the league below for example. Otherwise we are judging people on too modest expectations, ones that will see us relegated despite "good" performances.

The front four need to step it up big time, or we are down. QPR hit four away last time. We did it five years ago at Hull. Can we really see this front four doing that? They aren't doing poor, but need to do better. That means 5's, 6's and 7's are likely to be the common scores.

Heaton 6 - Had nothing to do, again :)
Trippier 7 - Looked our best creative threat
Shackell 6 - OK defensively he was solid but you have to be much more than that in the Premier League. He needs to learn how to pass a ball without playing a lofty chip with his sand wedge left foot.
Duff 8 - Solid and very calm when needed.
Mee 7 - Thought he did well against Walker and who else decided to roam down our left.
Arfield 8 - Ticked the midfield over well
Jones 8 - MOM - As Arfield. They bossed their expensive midfield. MOM purely for the flack he gets every week yet when he puts in a good performance he still gets more flack.
Barnes 7 - Not as effective as previous home game but still did well
Boyd 7 - As Barnes
Vokes 6 - Got nothing from a big strong defensive unit and little support from his strike partner when he did win his battles
Ings 6 - What did he do all game apart from try too much, hand the ball over for countless counter attacking opportunities and stood there whinging about it

Heaton- 6 had little to do but did it fine
Trippier- 7 attacking runs & crosses weren't quite as effective as usual.
Duff- 9 (MOM) - Had Harry Kane in his pocket. They could still be playing now and he wouldn't have had a sniff.
Shackell- 8 scares me when he keeps it at his feet so long, but it worked out.
Mee- 7 very solid defensively, didn't offer much going forward but that's not a part of his game as much as Trips
Boyd- 7 went off in the 2nd half but was a good nuisance
Jones- 7 kept things ticking over nicely
Arfield- 8 form has been picking up recently, still not hit the early-season heights but getting back there
Barnes- 7 did well in an unfavoured role and put in the best crosses, but didn't look a goal threat, would've rather seen him move up front and Wallace or Kightly come on, than Jutkiewicz replacing Vokes.
Ings- 7 poor first half, but picked up 2nd half- if him and Boyd had played well at the same time we might've won this.
Vokes- 8 line leading target man performance- r
