Burnley have only played twice on 10th May, losing the first one as we fought for promotion and then winning the second during a battle to avoid the drop.

Both games were played in the second tier, then the Second Division, the first in 1947 and the next in 1983.

The first of them in 1947 was a real blow to our title hopes. With six games remaining, we trailed leaders Manchester City by three points and travelled to Maine Road looking for a win that would see us put them under some real pressure.

Unfortunately, City won it 1-0 to extend their lead at the top. Not only that, the win clinched their promotion to the First Division with none of the clubs below us now able to catch them. We needed four more points from the last five games to ensure a return to the top flight which had been lost in 1930.
