At the risk of the big tent picture making a return. I think we need one. With all the money flowing in, the spectacular transfer failures this year and last, I think the club needs to make a statement. The crowd made one last Saturday - 7000 down

"The crowd made one last Saturday - 7000 down"

You are behind on the news - attendance was 15,061

Marquee signing....got my hopes up then!

Thought it was a midfielder from Paris Saint-Germain! :(

2,500 of which didn't turn up ;)

It would not surprise me at all if we didn't make the midfield signing we are absolutely desperate for, before the Transfer Window closes. It's not like we don't have form for such reckless behaviour, is it?

I got one off ebay ( other bidding websites are available ) a few weeks ago for my daughters birthday, it was brand new and didn't cost the earth.
It was easy to assemble and looked great, every home should have one.

What makes a 'Marquee signing'?

Does he have to be a certain value?

Does he have to be a recognisable?

Does he have to have a Premier League pedigree?

Does it matter as long as he fits well into our team/ethos?

"every home should have one". Would that still apply if you lived in a block of flats? ;)

A marquee signing would be someone who's clearly head and shoulders above most of our squad and can fit straight into the first eleven and start. So far, we haven't done this. For 2-3 years.

And by definition you are talking about an established PL player then who wouldn't a) Come to Burnley and b) fit into our wage structure then?

20-08-2015, 08:26 AM
No, just someone who is clearly better than most of what we have and can improve the first eleven from the get go.

Isn't Marquis De Sade a bit too old?

20-08-2015, 08:51 AM
Yes please, as long it is big enough to fit all of our so called strikers and all of of our leftbacks/wing backs in it and has plenty of empty space in the middle.

Oh and a guy who knows how to erect it.

I got *********ed recently and destroyed one at someone's house after I'd already sat on the food. All by accident. I'm not a vandal or anything.

"Would that still apply if you lived in a block of flats?"
Yes a flat is still a home, I mean it can just stay in the box until you move somewhere bigger, at least you can say you have one.

I reckon Ian Wright was the last one? We just need one that screams ambition. Grey, Antonio (yes I know) even Byrne. Just someone to get the pulse racing. Does Bridcutt do that?

Hull City made a few marquee signings last season, as did QPR. Derby County have apparently made several this season and are yet to win. These type of signings turn out to be more about hype than substance, in my humble opinion of course.

so as to avoid disappointment...

Surely Gazza was a Marquee signing?!

20-08-2015, 01:27 PM
Yes and as useful as a chocolate teapot

20-08-2015, 01:44 PM
Gazza(ebo) was one.

We don't need a marquee, we need a midfielder
