View Full Version : Pakistan v England 2nd Test

Nice day in Dubai and Pakistan have won the toss and are batting.

A quicker pitch than the first test although that wouldn't have been difficult.

But the Pakistan captain reckons the pitch will break up as the game goes on so early runs are important.

Pakistan 58/2 and Bairstow has just taken a brilliant catch at short leg.

Just chatting to a few staff at local school.

They seemed to be genuinely surprised to hear there's a test match on...even if played at some ungodly hour in the desert and limited to satellite TV viewers.

Murdoch's well on the way to turning cricket into a minority sport in this country...the game will end up getting what it deserves.

I'm of the Sky TV generation so terrestrial coverage is a distant memory for me (other than the Channel 4 efforts), were away Test Series ever broadcast on terrestrial TV?

I recall the BBC coverage of home series prior to Channel 4 but can't ever recall away series being covered.

I understand what you mean Fatboy but I don't think it's so gloomy.

Sky coverage is excellent, and TMS is still a good listen when Boycs isn't on.

20/20 is bringing the game to a much bigger audience and test matches at home have been brilliant recently.

Matches in the sub continent have always been a little dreary by comparison and to be playing in UAE sucks a lot of the excitement out.

But I think the staff at school probably don't know there's a series on because at 6-30 in the morning they're marking/lesson preparing etc, and can't keep up with the news; or maybe they just don't like cricket.

It is sad to see so few people in the ground again.

There looks to be half a dozen England fans but nearly the whole stadium is empty.

England cricket overseas has never been televised live except by Sky (possible exception of World Cups).

Test cricket overseas is a minority interest.

Charles Dagnall commentating on the test match for BBC radio5live on Saturday morning mentioned the East Lancs Derby. In answer to the question who did he want to win, he replied "Burnley because I am a Clarets supporter". They/we turn up everywhere.

Also nice to hear Bumble talking up Burnley this morning as a flag was being placed across some of the seats in Dubai.

England have 2 wickets remaining and need to bat 29 overs to draw the match.

Backed them at 15/2

Solid rearguard action by Wood and Rashid, must last 12 more overs with our Jimmy still in reserve. Enjoy your winnings ty!

Sublime to absolutely ridiculous from Rashid.

Couldn't believe he got out like that after such a fantastic effort
