The 27th November is another day that can be considered an average one in post-war football for the Clarets although all the disappointing results came almost forty years and more ago. We've played twelve league games, winning five, drawing three and losing four and we've also won two cup ties.

The first of these games was in 1948 when we beat Bolton at home 3-0. Ray Harrison scored all three goals for Burnley that day, the second hat trick for the centre forward whose goal won us a place at Wembley in the 1947 FA Cup Final.

The four defeats followed in the next four games and they were all by the same 2-1 scoreline. They were, with scorers, against Spurs at home in 1954 (Jimmy McIlroy), Liverpool away in 1965 (Willie Irvine), Swindon at home in 1971 (Martin Dobson) and Chelsea away in 1976 (Peter Noble).

Since then it has been almost plain sailing with the odd 1-1 draw thrown in. There have been three such draws, the first of which was at home to Derby in 1982. Paul McGee gav
