Bolton Wanderers will have to upset the odds, to become only the second club, in the last decade to come off the foot of the championship, at Christmas to avoid relegation.
Doncaster Rovers are the only side in the last decade, to be bottom going into the boxing day game, & beat the drop in 2009.
Only 9 clubs have managed to avoid relegation in the last 10 years, after going into Christmas in the bottom three, Sheffield Wednesday & Nottingham Forest twice, Doncaster, Hull, Crystal Palace, Barnsley & Brighton, have each managed it.
With a few Yorkshire clubs having stayed up, while being in the bottom three, the Millers have to put a good run of results together, & do the same, after beating Hull City, the team will have gained some confidence, & will look to beat Bolton Wanderers on Boxing Day,

The last time Bolton Wanderers got relegated from the second tier, was when it was old division 2, when also Rotherham & Burnley joined them in going down to division 3.

Worryingly Eric we only lost 17 games that season (from 42) and have already lost 14 (from 22) this time around. We ended up with 45pts from 42 games due to 10 wins and 15 draws and we need to cut down the losses if we are going to survive in May. Obviously we could do it with just wins but asking for 10 or 11 in the last 24 games might be a tall order.

PS We also took 4pts from Chelsea that season (1-0 at home, 1-1 away) so at least we owned them in the 4 games we played them in the 81/2 and 82/3 seasons. P4 W3 D1 L0 F12 A2 PTS10) XD

And a Merry Christmas to you two as well. I'm going for a lie down in a darkened room
