I was expecting a ban, but not 4 matches. Although this is the FA we're talking about here, so maybe not that surprising.

Scandalous decision. This all happened way before he joined Burnley. All this is doing is penalising the Club and its supporters. This really is so wrong.

Maybe Bamford will come in and bag a hattrick. Andre gets a rest and Bamford gets some game time.

A ludicrous decision by the rich suits in London.

Are we saying that everything that any player has ever done wrong will be subject to a ban?

This was a young lads tweet when no one had ever heard of him for Gods sake. If the FA are going to show consistency then I reckon that half of the players playing today better watch their backs.
But...Varney got his wrists slapped for racial abuse recently...some players are more equal than others, eh?

I really dislike the FA and everything it stands for. Let the rich get richer and bugger the others, sod the real fans who can't afford to watch. The FA have followed the dollar and our national team have suffered for years.

They would LOVE a closed shop Premier League, without the likes of Burnley, and I reckon it will happen.

I really hope that this decision galvanises our lads and we start ruffling av few feathers.

Oh well it looks like this whole trumped up farce will achieve its desired end and see the poorest club in the Premier League relegated.Well done FA following the agenda to the word.Make way for another trendy rich club with wealthy corrupt foreign ownership to fill the coffers again.
I think I am going to throw up.

Wrong for so many reasons, the FA must explain how they can apply 2016 penalties and standards to 2012 offences and what their policy on Twitter is now to be.
The justice system cannot do this.
How many years can they go back?
What age is the minimum?

Are they going to investigate his drug dealing friends now?
Wonder who was on the so called independant panel.

https://www.sentencingcouncil.org.uk/blog/post/how-sentencing-of-historic-offenders-works/

This spells the legal position out.

You can't change the law eg lower drink driving limits and then prosecute those who broke this law before it was passed or apply new sentences to old misdemeanours

I'm really surprised the club accepted this FA decision

It's not a historic offence though.

Gray was publicly displaying his comments on the internet on 20th August this year.

Rubbish they were clearly dated 2012
So you write a letter to a newspaper in 2012 and someone digs it up in 2016 from a library or the Internet - that's someone publicly displaying your old views. You can't take them down either!

Nobody dug the tweets up, they were displayed on public media and Gray could have taken them down at any time.

What if you put a poster up four years ago saying "Death to all gays", should the charges relate to when it was put up or when it was seen?

That looks like it's based on one charge, I believe Gray faced six and accepted three, so a four game ban seems about right.

Could not agree more 1959_1960. The whole Premier league is a joke. The top of the league is already shaping up and its only September!! Money is the ruination of sport and this league has nothing to do with sport. The so called FA justice is to assist with Burnley's relegation again as we have no right to be in the premier league. What Manchester Utd must face the farce of playing little Burnley; wow the embarrassment of such a thing! This league and pandering to the big clubs makes me want to vomit.

Everyone missing the bigger picture here and thinking there is an agenda against smaller clubs from the FA. A four game ban really is not that much of a punishment, and we are far from a one man team.

But this all happened when he was at Hinckley United, If a player was under contract ,they Hinckley should be punished! Why ,how can the F A punish a club that player has a contract with today?

On balance its a fair sentence , harsher on the club than on the player, I am a fan of Gray on the pitch and hope he has changed off it for the better, I would have thought an awareness course , maybe where he could have socialsed with some shirtlifters, done a bit of shopping and maybe gone to a musical with them, would have been more fitting.

Another way of looking at it is OK ,laws are made ,but then we have judges who determine the importance or value of the event, using logic they assess the incident, thereafter fining or punishing that person. But here a set of power hungry elitist ,above all others ,not judges to any moral degree.and do they care? Certainly not! That is the sad point of it all.

Solution ?
We have to find a way to bring morality back into our society. This kind of 'elitist mentality'will slowly destroy us all in time! Not just in football but in all aspects of our society

I think the main argument is whether these posts represent the present or not. Social media is largely a new form of communication, that enables you to reach an audience for the every day mundane **** you do, but it also gives you a platform to interact with people that you look up to. There are plenty of young, impressionable, Burnley fans who will have read his early tweets, just as they would scroll through old photos and there it becomes an issue. It was said in the past, but exists in the present as a representation of himself to his followers. In the present he is employed by Burnley and governed by the FA. In reality, what else could the FA do that is within their power? What else could they do to ensure a positive message was sent for the acceptance of homosexuality in a sport where it is known to be taboo.

By all means punish him with a fine ,but with a 4 match ban? Who are they punishing his present team and not with whom he was at the time?? Give a fine but do not harm his new club. Whats the logic in that??

The only message I get apart from its run by idiots is, ''don't buy any player that has a shifty dark past!!''

Could not agree more.We simply do not fit in with the Premier League crowd. The whole set up is corrupt. The bull**** on fair play finances makes me want to throw up as well.United spend 200m every year nearly and that is absolutely fine. There is no level playing field for smaller teams anymore.Unless you have a billionaire owner you can forget about competing in the Prem. That is not sport.

ClaretinBudapest, your are spot. A newly promoted team now has around 3 months from promotion and the window opening to build a team that than survive with clubs buying soon to be 100 million players and wages that don't bare thinking about as if they are not already. This to participate in a league where the only thing the pundits are discussing about your team is if they can possibly stay in the league and you know that will be the same thing each and every year most likely in the event your side performs a miracle and stays up. That is then not to mention the big fish will be looking to rape and pillage your best players reducing your survival chances ongoing and all this is sport and financial fair play they tell us?? Give me a break, it's rich people using clubs as marketing tools and as play thing. What a terrible state this is.

It warms me deeply....that we have guardians of fairness to watch over the susceptible of our game...with all it's destructive attraction, haunting influence - erosion of innocence, violations on the development of the young and easily aroused.

Good then for the other thickly promoted attractions...of irreproachable entertainment...so attentively placed - to better their development....and ready them for the future.

Given who won the league season, and how they did it, this is simply not true. The diversity in the league makes it entertaining. If you want to watch a league where everyone is on the same level go watch the pub leagues.

Balanbam, I can't really explain my POV any clearer. If you honestly feel that is the message, then I don't know what to say.

Now, in his new autobiography Jamie Vardy: From Nowhere, My Story, the 29-year-old has further lifted the lid on his fears that the regrettable moment last July will never be forgotten. .......Oh dear , oh dear !!!!! Son you don't tell things in any book.

It should now be interesting to see what happens ?
If your a Leicester fan! ......So what these things happen! Jap is just a shortened version of Japanese same as Scots is shortened Scottish. What's the problem?...... He has admitted his mistake and apologized. Surely that should be the end of the matter and he should be allowed to move on and get on with his career.

I am sorry Bullard but last season was a fluke. You know it and I know it.Over the entire Premier League period how many teams out of the so-called top four have won the title.By the way Leicester are not exactly the poor mans club.It is usually won by one of the teams who has spent the most money. That is not sport because sport is supposed to be on a level playing field. In its current form and under the present regulations the Premier League will never be a level playing field.

Bullard032
26-09-2016, 08:07 PM
The premier league has never been a level playing field. Fluke or not, it still defies what you state. And compared to La Liga and Bundesliga, the EPL does a lot more to ensure the league is not dominated by the same two or three teams each year. A level playing field doesn't make for an entertaining sport.
