First games of the County Championship today... weather permitting. Yorks playing Essex at Headingley. Not sure what to expect, hopefully better than last season, but I can't say that with any confidence.

Weather didn't permit - no play before lunch, due to rain.

Great opportunites this season for the youngsters in the squad to claim a place in the first team, for batting and bowling . Kohler-Cadmore, Waite and Carver will never get a better opportunity, and let's hope that Coad can repeat his success of last season, one of the few positives of 2017. Got my 2018 Playfair Cricket Annual at the ready!

19 years old batsman Harry Brook in the team today. No Patterson - rumour that he has broken a finger

Leeds CCC need to do better this season.

It makes you wonder whether County Cricket should be played abroad until mid May.

County cricket?

The county connection was lost years ago, plus foreign players and those with England central contracts not being able to play makes it one big farce.

As predicted by some fans on the Yorkshire Cricket White Rose Forum yesterday, play has been abandoned for the day, again.
The Headingley outfield is still too waterlogged to start the game.

Day 3.... guess what - no play before lunch, outfield still waterlogged! This is ridiculous -there must be something wrong with the drainage. I'm not sure how the points system works if the game is abandoned without a ball being bowled. We lost home and away to Essex last season so a "normal" draw might not be too bad, but this is just stupid

Day 3 (Sunday) - no play and abandoned for the day again. If no play tomorrow (final day!), both teams get three points. Can't remember that happening before in a Yorks County Championship game.

Probably the one to beat is Glamorgan v Yorkshire 2012 when only 34 overs were bowled first day at Colwyn Bay then 3 days washed out

There's already a rumour that the next Yorks home game might have to be switched to Scarborough, because of the drainage problems

Mike Fogarty stated that they knew how bad it was so why did they not make provisional plans to move this fixture to Scarbro

Day 4 (Monday) - match abandoned without a ball being bowled. Complete waste of time.

It breaks their hearts to go there for the festival, so they aren't going to want to arrange anything outside Leeds.

First time for 51 years that a County Championship game at Headingley has been abandoned without a ball being bowled

Did you notice that One Day cup win at Lancashire Mike, it looked like a cracking game with a tense finish. We hit a massive 379 and they fell about 17 runs short of victory in the end.
And it was another good opening innings by Lyth, maybe hes getting his confidence and more importantly his form back again.

Yes, listened to it live on the radio. Great result - a ton from Willey and some wickets too. We've done well at Old Trafford recently.
We have also beaten Northants today (Thurs)and so qualify for the next stage of the One-day cup... which is Essex away , next Thursday. Good performances from Willey again today with bat and ball. Useful knocks from Tattersall ( the young wicketkeeper) and Ballance too.

Yes Ive seen the stats for todays match and Lyth was back to his disappointing ways again. Willey was almost man of the match again and we really might need him for the Qtr final at Essex.
That was a massive partnership as well wasn't it between Ballance & Tattersall, which saw us over the line. Another worrying thing though is that Root is still under performing with the bat.
