I know politics is rarely done on here, but, given a vote to determine the breaking up of the union, how would you vote?

The taxes raised in England far outweigh those raised in Wales or Scotland but some of our best infantry regiments come from Scotland and Wales. So it's a hard one to call in my eyes.

The thread posted was brought on by the vote that Scotland get to choose whether or not to go it alone. England are part of the union and also feature on the flag.

I've always wanted England recognised as a Country, and on my passport. It would be difficult not to vote "yes" if asked. Scotland have a difficult choice and over the last week or so currency has been a big issue.

The masses are big talkers, but when in a ballot booth having to choose between the familiar and the unfamiliar many get a rush of blood to the boots. I can't see the United Kingdom being anything but united!

It might be a bit corny, but I am a great believer in the 'United we stand, divided we fall' concept.

Sod 'em...let them go it alone.

In fact, finish what Hadrian started!

We'll have more Scottish immigrants than eastern Europeans!
Then once Scotland is empty, some yank will buy it and turn it into a golf course and game reserve.

Spot on Chimmpy,my sentiments entirely. And another thing why the hell the Ukrainians want to get into the EU goodness knows. Why leave one corrupt regime only to jump into bed with an even more corrupt organisation who daren't even have their accounts audited for over 20 years.May as well stay with the corruption you know rather than get fleeced and hung out to dry by Brussells.

Mind The Gap on BBC2 this Monday will be about the financial differences between London and the rest of Britain, perhaps the scots would actually benefit by breaking away from Westminster.

Perhaps Salmond will get some Polish brickies to strengthen Hadrians wall to stop the scots from leaving.

A real minefield that one if they did break ties with Westminster then it would have to be a total, and clean break but the timescales on achieving that could be damaging to both countries, issues like the Pound interest rates etc for instance would all be controlled by the Bank of England, in England! do most Scots really want out of the Union, maybe its just me but I'd be surprised.

I really hope Scotland stays in the union, but after working in Edinburgh and Inverness last month, I am under the impression that there is a lot more in favour of leaving than there is staying.
I took the opportunity to ask a few people when up there and was totally shocke

Us scots like to blame the Tories and middle England for all our woes, if we go it alone then any blame will be our own. I don't trust any politicians, I've got MSP's, MP's and MEP's looking after me and things don't look any better than they did ten years ago. Salmonds making plenty of promises but how does he intend to pay for them, he can't even tell us what currency an independent Scotland would use.

You can bet your bottom Scottish dollar that whatever happens Mr S will not be a poor man but his kilted buddies better watch their backs as they will be the ones to suffer but Mr S will be long gone.

There is a lack of definite answers, will we (scots) be in the EU, I've heard we won't, so will have to set up border controls on the English border? Will we have to get visas to go to the Costas? Will companies move offices south of the border? What happens to the NHS, MoD, nuclear submarine bases, pensions, national grid, the pound, it's a total can of worms. What politicians say and what they deliver are often two different things, it's a gamble I'm not prepared to take.
I'm disillusioned with Britain and am thinking of moving abroad anyway, why be unhappy here when I could be unhappy some place warmer.:)

That's Standard Life threatening to quit Scotland if there is a yes vote, and I don't think they will be the last.
