Yep. If Manc Yoo are serious about winning league can they afford to lose a big talent like Scott Wootton? Moyes out!!
300,000 rising to 700,000 depending how well he does and how well the team does.

I think he will be a fringe player, can't see Pearce being dropped. Might get some time in the cup.

hope you are wrong!
I think we need a skilful CB with some pace.

Pearce just scares me as he is a mistake waiting to happen - a bit like Duberry!

He does look like he's about to fall over at any moment XD But he bleeds for the cause, can't ask much more than that :)

Got ourselves another defender ! :blue:

I know the lad is seen as being a sound "investment", but would much prefer to see another attacker brought in (without selling Ross!)

I can't tell you how many times we've had people in the box only for the delivery of the cross to be in the stands or to the corner flag. Winger is what's missing :)

Sorry, "attacker" was meant to cover both CF and winger requirements, neither of which you could put Mr Wootton into!

I can understand the nervousness about the squad in general, but as there are 12 in the 1st team referred to as defenders, 8 as midfield, and 6 as forwards, I wonder where Wootton will fit in (and where the most pressing need for strengthening is)?

Go on iplayer, west yorkshire sport, and listen to what McD's been saying these past few weeks.

We've signed a CB.That doesn't mean they aren't looking to fill other areas. It just means he was signed first.
Glass half full this week.

I get the "he was signed first" thing, I just don't get how we haven't been able to persuade anyone with class and talent to join us "up front", particularly after the changes that have been made by GFH and Brian, and the atmosphere amongst both team and fans since the start of the season. I'm still concerned (moreso since Wootton signed, pushing the wage bill up further) that we may be forced to sell Ross (and yes, I've seen ALL the other "stuff" about new contract, just no formal announcement yet!)

He's gona be signing young, unproven, hungry players. He's said so. He's said so til he's blue int face. We've tried the quick fix, doesn't work, even if you do have loads of cash (Leicester) and we haven't.
When was the last forward we signed with "class and talent"? We're a championship side, we'll be signing championship players. And yes, we definitely needed a centre half. He, in my opinion, alongside Lees, will be first choice. We'll see.

Fair point, but it's out of our control. To some extent it's out of the clubs control too.If any of our players are offered silly money, they'll probably walk.It would be nice to be in a position where the club could retain its assets but we're a long way from that day.Hopefully they've costed this out so we don't need to sell any more of the silverware. The coal scuttle can go though.

All relative mate. A very long way to retain our best assets. Spurs and Liverpool can't do that (Bale and Suarez will be off shortly)

Well I am very happy at this signing. I have ranted at Bates etc for bringing in crap and stated what seemed to be obvious, which is bring in, preferably permanently, young and quality players, that is exactly what has happened here.
Other posters are correct in stating the need for width, a striker etc but it will be difficult to get them all. Plus as others have mentioned, I feel the midfield will be strengthened by pushing Byram forward.
Hull got promoted on the back of bringing in Man U youngsters, why shouldn't we try and cherry pick the best young uns too?
A big thumbs up all round from me.

re: Wootton signs
I agree with you mate but it ain't easy getting in good wingers and forwards cos, as Eddie Gray always says, clubs won't let good players go. Also proven ones, good enough for what we need, are very expensive. The way we've gone these past years, and the way we'll have to continue to go, and has been touched on by McD, is by good scouting and by bringing in players who will develop and improve, as we did with the likes of Gradel, Becchio, Snodgrass, Somma etc etc. Warnock tried by getting Hall in and I know people keep saying play him but I saw him at Barnsley t'other day for the reserves and I'm sorry, not good enough. I'll support him whilever he's wearing the all white and doing his best, I'm not one of them muppets who slags our players off and I really hope i'm proved wrong but I can't see him in the first team apart from maybe the odd subs appearance in a cup.
