So where, if anywhere, can football in Nelson go from here?!
Nelson lies four miles north of Burnley, and the football team played in the Premier Division of the North West Counties League, the ninth level of the football pyramid, until the plug was unceremoniously pulled on the club ahead of the 2010/2011 season.
The club enjoyed a ten-year spell in the Football League from 1921, and their greatest achievement came when winning the Third Division North title in 1923. The resulting celebration tour of Spain also saw them beat both Real Madrid and Real Oviedo.
