Neil Simpson "Simmie" ...
Played for Afc from around 1980 - 1990 . . Has 2 premier division winner medals, 3 Scottish cup winner medals, 1 league cup winner medal, 1 ECWCW medal (playing in every match to the final) and 1 Super cup winner medal. Note he also scored v Bayern in the quarter final and v Hamburg in the Super cup final. Has been back with us since about 2001.My reason for this post is, as brought up on another thread but not in detail (by TAB) why this LEGEND has not been recognised by the club and had a testimonial. As TAB says, to honour him with a testimonial being the last ever game played at Pittodrie before the clubs move might compensate towards the fact its actually taken them so f*ckin long to do it ! C'mon AFC do the right thing ! Please dont ruin the thread by posting all that long gone by sh*t for reasons not to, he deserves one for his achievements alone ! |

Yup, career spanned 3 decades (Oct '78 to May '90) and he's had 10 years as coach. Nae many people deserve one more than Simmie. I want to see it so we can see a scene similar to this |

The man should certainly get a testimonial, but I think it would be far better to have it as the the first game at the new stadium and thus Simmie who has had this injustice for so long will have his own piece of history in the new ground that should last for the next hundred years. |

Have the gluepots that run AFC ever been asked as to why Simmie's years of service have never been recognised ? |

They're the ones who are refusing it, though... So I'm guessing they've thought about it in passing. |

do the right thing AFC and give this man a testimonial...its the least he deserves for his service to the club during the golden years...why they refuse is beyond me, is it because they are scared of the weegie scum press and that kebab munching journeyman durrant?grow some spine AFC. |

Marvellous idea Mezz.Simmie?s testimonial, last game at the Pitt?? jaysus, how lang would it take me to stop blubbing? I think calls for a testimonial for Simmie are pushing at an open door amongst Dons fans. The disgrace came years ago when his ten years playing service never got the testimonial it deserved. We can all speculate why he wasn?t given one (I certainly have my opinion) but the fact he wasn?t is a disgrace. |

thats exactly it min. The fans who so clearly want this to happen don't make it easy for the club by contiunuing to sing the Durrant song almost more than 20 years after the event. Perhaps the fans should make the first gesture by banning the song themselves. |

This has been brought up countless times, each time with no response from the club (minus a "no" from about 10 years ago in the Evening Express if I remember correctly). Can't EVER see it happening, in all honesty - which is a strange thought, because I can't really see the reason against if there even is one. |

Not a chance. You really think the song has nothing to do with it? I would say it is a major contributing factor. But it's easier to lay all the blame on the club. |

re: Neil Simpson
I asked Willie Miller in Soul Bar one night why it hadn?t happened and he couldn?t give me a decent answer. The best ?witty? response he could come up with was that "the club looks after him in other ways ? have you seen how much he can eat?!? I asked him to get Stewarty Milne on the phone so I could ask him but there was no chance of that! His parting shot was that he would bring it up at the next Board Meeting and they would let the fans know if there were doing anything about it ? that was over a year ago. It?s a disgrace that Simmie has not been given a testimonial. |

That's because the club are to blame Simmie deserves a testimonial, the fans want him to have one but it's not going to happen & we all know the reason why. The song has nothing to do with it. Do you think the Rangers fans & friends in the media would've forgotten all about the tackle if it wasn't for us reminding them 4 times a year? I doubt it. |

The world 'legend' is used far too much but not in this case. The only player whose career was ruined by that incident was Simmie & I honestly believe he would have played for the Dons till he retired had this not happened. It's blatantly obvious that this would be the one thing that would unite everyone & put bums on seats. |

So what are the reasons why the club won't give him a testimonial since you seem to be in the know? And the incident would not have been regurgitated even close to what it has been throughout the years if it wasn't for the song. The Aberdeen fans who sing the song have done a great job of maintaining the incident as a current point of issue. |
