If anyone should doubt the importance of Holmes to the team ...

then think again . The beauty of today was the variance of the build up play . When the chance was there to play the ball on the ground - we did - and when nothing was on - we hit the long one to Homer. This is a huge improvement than continually pumping high ball after high ball to him . Opposition were ganging up on him big time and its easy to come to the conclusion that he wasn`t up to much when this was the case . Opponents will not be too confident to do this if we can hit them on the deck , down the flanks AND play the long one to the big man - where his clever knock ons can continue to cause damage . VARIETY IS THE KEY FOR US .

However, he still cannot run.
Saw him tracking a defender back on their goal and it was almost comical.
I have not doubt he can get goals, he nearly did a mini 'Ryan 84' at one point which would have been his hat trick.
But running, at pace, no. He can't even move his arms above his gut when he runs. I sound critical and he will get goals but they will come from belter shots or knock downs that come back to him.
He is still a danger due to his size, tho I find hard to believe that he is a stone lighter.

Whether he can run at 100mph or not he has an important part to play for us,i've never heard of a player who has 'split' the opinions of fans as the big man does, whether its because he cant run like a whippit or not,he covers a bit of ground in a game and should be given the fans support for commitment alone. He makes himself available everytime and never hides, that should be enough for starters.Someone who can cover ground quicker is good then?as hammer says, variety and mix.

Older posters will remember that big Jim Patterson was viewed in a similar way to Holmes by fans of the day.
There were some who thought he was too slow and awkward and others who couldn't see past him.
I must confess to being among the latter. What can never be disputed is his goal scoring over a decade.
In the case of Holmes I'm not entirely convinced either way but if he continues to score regularly for a season or two I might be convinced just like many became avid fans of Big Jim.

Weatherson is there to run or shoot and homer to either flick on or shoot. Bloody simple. Homer played well today once again and no matter what he does he will have people on his back. He deserves so much better, if it wasnt for his goals and his assists we could of maybe not even of been in this league this season!

Why didnt you post this praise up last week after his ''bad game'' ??
The guy is marmite. People either like his play or they dont, just accept it and move on....
Did not post because I was not present --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I will not look back on Homers time and think he was one of Queens best ever strikers because he is not. His chronic lack of pace and languid style count against him too much . On the plus side , I see that his ever present , honest style, clever flicks and touches - with a few goals into the bargain have been good for the team . As I have said , the way to get the best out of him is to use him as an option and not almost exclusively - as was the case at times last season. This is the way we have to go.
