Although the scoreline would suggest a very much one sided affair, it was certainly not that, we looked like the lower team for a few spells throughout the game. All in all though not a bad day at the office, the Reilly lad looked composed and took his goal very well, Carmichael played the full 90 and done a reasonable job, Scally is nowhere near fit, however his inch perfect pass in the lead up our 4th was like a blast from the past.
I thought it was a one sided affair apart form a 10 min spell after we went 3-0 up. Albion Rovers were a much better organised team than Dunbarton were this week. Dunbarton pushed further up the field without much bite upfront which left more space for Queens in midfield with some nice angled play to the wings.
First goal was a classic run down wing, perfect cross hit with power and Homer scored a beauty with his head. Second was nice pen. A nice weighted ball to Johnston allowed him to score the third when one on one with keeper and similar for Quinn who was set up by Weatherston when he could have shot and scored himself. Last goal was well taken by Reilly who showed composure in the box.
Queens were more postive from the start playing probing passes and were not content to knock it about the back as much as last week. That said they did it when required.
Next week will be harder. Not really a bad player for Queens today. MOM Weatherston, followed by Reid who never put a foot wrong
Big improvement on last week but the real test will come with the start of the league campaign next week.
The crowd was again disappointing.
Weatherston was well worth his MoM and he and Burns combined well down the right.
The same thing should be happening down the left with Quinn and Carmichael but too often Carmichael was left a bit isolated especially in the first half.
Be interesting to see how three at the back copes with Dundee. We came to being close to being outnumbered in defence on quite a few occasions today.
Certainly a better performance than last week. We might well have taken the lead in the opening minute when Davie Weatherston shot just wide from the right hand side, I thought Davie played very well today and was full of running and got into a lot of good positions and he was involved in 3 of the goals. The first after 17 minutes involved a good ball from Johnston to Weatherston and he played a fine ball into the box which was met by a diving header from Holmer which gave Grindlay in the Dumbarton goal no chance.
We got our second after 26 minutes when a ball into the box was handled by a defender and Holmer placed the ball low and wide to Grindleys right from the spot.
Dumbarton came at us a bit at start of second half and after Robinsons punch out landed at a Dumbarton players feet it was knocked back in and looked like a goal until Robinson turned it over the bar, a really good save.A couple of minutes later we were 3 ahead when a good ball from Davie Weatherston played in Allan Johnston and he made no mistake.
Dumbarton did pull one back after 58 minutes when a long ball was played into the box and headed back across goal where Carcary knocked it home.
Allan Johnston made way for Scally after 70 minutes and although Scalls does not look fit he played well and played a nice ball to Weatherston who unselfishly cut it back for Rocco Quinn to make it 4-1.Weatherston was then replaced by McLaren and a few minutes later young Gavin Reilly came on in place of Derek Holmes..
Reilly was involved a lot in the few minutes he had and capped it all with the 5th goal when he showed great composure when he collected the ball in the box before blasting it past former Queens keeper Stephen Grindlay.
I felt Craig Reid yet again had another excellent game and never put a foot wrong, he looks really comfortable on the ball and has become an excellent player over the last year or so. Davie Weatherston as I have already said played very well today and would probably be my man of the match.
David Weatherson was very good . Showed how important he is to our team with his pace , quick passing and awareness of whats on around him . Gosh , there will be silence on this matter tonight , I betcha .

I presume Veteran and Kenny were watching the same match.
"Kenny Brannigan heaped praise on his troops and stated, "The boys were brilliant out there today! I thought they were great, even brilliant at times. Dumbarton are a useful side and just missed out on a First Division place last season, so they`re not a bad team."
Thought it was a much improved performance from last Saturday with Weatherston's pace and a great display by Burns causing Dumbarton all sorts of problems. Carmichael didn't have the impact that he had last week, but he worked hard and had one moment of magic near the end when a great bit of skill and a clever backheel nearly set up a Queens goal. Thought we created loads of chances today and looked dangerous every time we attacked. I really liked what I saw of Reilly when he came on and his finish was excellent. Reservations about small squad size apart I'm getting more optimistic for the forthcoming season as, for once, we seem to have some good young players coming through and the pace and skill we have going forward is very refreshing. Enjoyed the game today greatly.

The Black Narcissus returns fired up and full of mince as ever.
i thought queens were exelent today and except for some brilliant goal keeping from grindley we could have trounced mortons 7 motm for me rocco quinn played brilliant today i thought harris got caught out of position for there goal but hes human and we all make mistakes all i can say is its looking good from where im sitting carmichael and reily chasing every ball showing determination and as a supporter its great to watch these young lads showing that kind of commitment scally i think should take a back seat no where near fit we have these youngsters why not use them give them 1st team experience and let the supporters see why they showing so much faith in the u 19s lee robinson is by far the better keeper out of him and mckenzie is there no way queens could pay roddie off harsh i know but hes injured for 4 months and moneys saved in wages could bring in another new signing ?
Played to Homers strengths first half.....could'nt be faulted !
Some high quality football from Queens and for 80 minutes out of 90 looked several classes better than the "Sons".........yet still not good enough to satisfy some folk...........
Grindleys save from Willie McLarens effort was as good as anything you'll see all season...... Homers first, Rocco's and young Gavin's goals were all of the highest order........well worth a tenner !!!!!!!!!
wasn't there so cannot comment on performance, but brilliant result and can only give the players confidence. Just hope we can keep hold of Harris as if we lose him we wont be able to replace him with the same type of quality. Main objective is that we won, and we did so convincingly by the sounds of it - so bring on Celtic at home in the next round!!

Don`t think Celtic enter tournament until the round after next.
To help their bid in Europe I think.
We wont face Celtic in the next round we are only through to 2nd round spl teams in europe dont enter until the 3rd round. Lets just hope its a home tie there are no easy games nowadays so it would be a bonus to be in 3rd round heres hoping. My man of match today was Holmer ok i am not his biggest fan but hats off to the big man today. Touch link up play pretty much faultless display by the big man keep it up homer in all great team performance all round Cmon the south Bring on the Dundee and lets show Chisholm and Dodds and not forgetting every Queens fans pal Wee Leigh Griffiths and shut Dundee up for once and for all.
Today saw a much improved Queens performance although I was surprised at how little fight Dumbarton put up. Apart from a 10 minute following their 2nd half goal they never really threatened.
We got in front with a well taken header from Derek Holmes, who then followed this up with a penalty following a blatant handball. Should maybe have had a hat-trick but thats football, you can't have everything & two's good enough to be going on with. Second half started as the 1st left off with Queens for once controlling midfield. Allan Johnstone in particular playing some nice passes & helped himself to a goal too.
After this Dumbarton managed to get a consolation goal. Good finish but you have to ask - where was the full back? As with last week we gave a goal away from our failure to cut out the cross. We will have to tighten up in this regard as better teams will catch us out here. Dumbarton then had their 10 minute spell before we got a 4th goal, Quinn finishing coolly from a Weatherston layoff. Young Gavin Reilly then showed composure beyond his years to finish the game off.
Best for us today Weatherston, who's pace was a constant problem for Dumbarton. He just needs a goal & more will follow. At the back Craig Reid was his usual assured self. He has really come on in the last year. Daniel Carmicheal caused problems for Dumbartons back line with his willingness to run with the ball. I'm not Derek Holmes biggest fan but today he scored 2 goals & won his fair share of headers & flick on's, credit where it is due. Quinn although he finished well with the goal I thought drifted in and out of the game. His workrate though was better than last week & I would hope for further improvement there. Can't really fault McLaren today, very unlucky not to score. Don't know how Grindlay got to that ball & don't think he knows either! Allan Johnstone although the legs may not be what they once were showed he still has a keen football brain with a good range of passing. A joy to watch at times as he always seemed to have time on the ball.
To sum up, a much improved performance albeit against a below par Dumbarton side. I still however remain of the opinion that the 3-5-2 formation will be found out against better teams. Dundee next week being an example of this.
It will be a hard game next weekend (sadly I won't make due to work commitments) but if we apply ourselves in the right fashion we should be able to say "Hiya Leigh - Hiya Pal!" & depart with something from the game.
Great result to take to dens park but will we play the same team or formation there....i think not unfourtnely! Thought today Homer or Magic was MOM and Bob was for once the most uneffective player for us!
