replied to Bomber Now we have Celtic players threatening not to attend the awards evening and even stating they may withdraw from the SPFA. Best of all is Kenny Shiels comments KENNY SHIELS last night told Neil Lennon to quit moaning about Celtic’s Player of the Year snub and branded the SPL champs paranoid. The outspoken Kilmarnock gaffer’s controversial comments are sure to rile the Hoops boss who described the absence of any of his stars from the four-man shortlist as “abysmal”. But Ulsterman Shiels claimed his compatriot has no cause for complaint and is adamant the PFA Scotland nominees – Andrew Shinnie, Leigh, Griffiths, Niall McGinn and Michael Higdon – are a fair reflection of who this season’s top performers are. Shiels said: “Celtic make a song and dance about everything, don’t they? Paranoid FC. “Who from Celtic would come into the category? How many games has Kris Commons played? Maybe he should be on the list but I wouldn’t get all paranoid about it. “James Forrest was Young Player of the Year last season and he only played about 20 games. That’s what’s good about the PFA award as it’s the players who vote and they’re in a good position to judge. I’m not going to use words like ‘abysmal’ or ‘appalling’ but then I don’t manage a club who would protect me. It’s the players’ thing and they deserve credit for how they vote. They haven’t been put under pressure. “Certain managers are just egotistical. I think the four nominees is a fair assessment of who has done well this season. “Winning the league is testament to how good Celtic were as a team but if you’d said to me at the start of the season they would be one of the last to win their domestic league in the whole of Britain I wouldn’t have thought that possible. “Everyone thinks their player should be in there. All 12 clubs can’t be represented. You could have a player playing for St Mirren – Paul McGowan and Steven Thompson have been fantastic but I don’t see Danny Lennon complaining. Maybe he will do. “I can only judge players on how they play against us and Shinnie, Higdon and Griffiths have all done well. It’s hard to say but those four are a fair reflection.” 26 April 2013 09:20 Started on 'ScottishFitba Messageboard' forum
