In fairness, getting us 5th was pretty good.
Then he let it go to his head and swapped Cabaye and Tiote's positions, ruining them both and we spent £8 million on Vurnon Anita as our only Summer buy. We could have really kicked on although I suspect it would have taken a change of manager as we probably over-achieved that season and I don't think Pardew was capable of taking us any further.
Many bad Pardew decisions including the treatment of Ben Arfa, deflecting blame constantly, Hull game, Defending Ashley at every turn, square pegs in round holes. I'm sure theres many more that I've tried to forget them.
Oh, and not with us but that dance.
I remember him talking to the press, trying to flog our players
Oh, don't get me wrong, I hated him. I think, on here, me and Zoggs were the last to turn against him but, really, he'd done nothing to deserve that support. Can't remember why it took me so long.
His problem was that he was so unlikeable. If he had stopped moaning and attacking the fans and making excuses for himself all the time, he would have been more respected. We all know what constraints he was working under with Ashley, but he defended The Fat Man instead of standing up for the club and himself as a manager. It really felt like the fans vs. the owner and manager during his time here. Couldn't believe Palace were willing to buy him free. Haha.
Finishing 5th was remarkable; most people tend to forget that we stumbled out of Europe and finished the next season at 16th. Still, we were called fickle for wanting him out at that point: "He got you to fifth. Be grateful".
