We’ll only need the one and with the four centre halves more than capable of the big hoof - Cosgrove and Main are bankers to get twenty a piece. Ideally we bring in another couple of holding midfielders and then we can drop any of our wingers and playmaking ten if he’s signed, to the bench.
So thats 3 signings we have made so far and my take on it is:
Main- pish striker who doesnt score goals so its a no from me
Taylor- We all know his capabilities and limitalities so again its a no from me if we want to improve our starting XI
Hedges- Never seen him play and never heard off him so willing to give him a chance but still a bit uninspiring.
To sum up,not the best start to our transfer's and hoping for 2-3 players that can actually come in and IMPROVE our starting XI
Aye, fair assessment.
Re the Main signing, I’ve heard some say (including myself earlier) that the signing of Main would be OK if it’s as a replacement for Stevie May.
But thinking about it, if we were lucky enough to offload him, why would we look to replace him with another striker who doesn’t score goals?
It makes no sense.
More generally, if we’re sticking with a 4-2-3-1 formation, we need three players to improve the starting X1:
- a left back
- a midfielder to play as one of the “2”.
- a “ number 10”
After that, see where we are, maybe another couple of loanees towards the end of the window?
Maybe a “Dom Ball” type that can cover RB & defensive midfield.
It could well be him that is signed.
2 midfielders & a left back are key.
Get them right and we have the basis of a decent starting X1.
Maybe some Ryan Fraser money will be available?
I just can't see where Main will play if Cosgrove is still with us. Here's hoping there isn't a multi million £ bid for him...
Curtis Main is the most uninspiring, demoralising, painful signing we've made in many a year.
Why? Why? Why have we signed him?
1. He is yet another striker who doesn't score goals.
2. He's not even a creative striker who will provide assists.
3. He's not a particularly tall striker who's going to be great in the air.
4. We've already got a big giant striker to play up front if we want to persevere with eye-bleeding football next season.
5. Because of point 4, Main will likely be played out wide, meaning we will be even worse to watch as we'll be missing an actual winger.
6. McInnes loves Stevie May so much, he'll probably shoe-horn him in as well, so we'll have May on one wing and Main on the other wing with Cosgrove through the middle.
7. I need to have a lie down before I have a melt down just thinking about the possibility of point 6 becoming a reality... please make this nightmare stop. Please.
If you look up underwhelming in the dictionary there may very well be a picture of Main holding up a red and white scarf.
Cannot wait for this tempestuous brand of ***y Football at Pittodrie next season. Chin up though.....Hearts can add ‘Hammer Throwers Of The Year’ to the list of accolades they won’t win next season.
Hope Main’s Up for some pointless sprinting. He’ll be doing a lot of it chasing Cosgroves first touch. On a positive note, we don’t know how good he is at left back yet.
Yet.
