I loved him as a player and as a manager first time around, until he walked. Then I lost a little bit of respect for him...but just a little bit.
His second managerial spell was a mistake to start with but I still welcomed him back.
What happened in that time is a mixture of good bad and ugly and there's no smoke without fire...even if one is more guilty than the other.
I could have accepted him walking out if he'd done it in a better way.
The fact that he took Newcastle United football club to court to try and extract a massive compensation...not just his wages, knocked him right down in my estimation.
I don't dislike the man. I'm thankful for his time as a player and manager first time around. It gave the fans some hope for success and fantastic football.
If you want to decide I'm not a Newcastle fan then sing it from the roof tops and type it out a thousand times a day for as long as you wish...but guess what?
It won't change the fact that I am a Newcastle United fan and always will be regardless of who owns us or who manages us or who plays for us.
