Also my pint was bought in a posh pub in the Cotswolds (and by the half), not some scabies ridden local in Accrington. 6 or 7 years after my first beer I remember drinking Thwaites mild in that town for less than the 20p a pint, so it was either a regional variation or the fact that mild was cheaper than bitter. Lager - perish the thought: although I seem to remember Stella on tap at some astronomical price outside the range of your average schoolboy, and it was fizzy, yellow cold and deeply unpleasant. Some things never change!
