Yes indeed, a most unimpressive performance but at least we hung on for the three points. Also, a couple of decent saves by Griffiths near the end. Overall, though, another game that we should have scored three or four yet could easily have thrown away two points.
Way too slow, pedestrian football, giving Wigan time to get back into shape, Chalobah, what a heap of shyte no wonder Fulham got rid
Why are we so slow and pedestrian?
Another manager unable to get our lightweights to up their effort and speed levels.
How many years of this half a r s e d type player do we have to endure?
Are we ever going to have a squad of fit, quick and athletic players willing to give every ounce and a coach capable of squeezing them until they drop.
We moaned about Sawyers but fk me……he’s like Iniesta cloned with Yaya Tourre compared to Chalobah.
Sawyers would walk into this team.
Livermore is better than this useless lump.
To be fair to the the players a lot of them are running on empty, but the team affectively picks its self and will do for at least the next 2 games and we need to solve the problem of the left hand side since Phillips was injured we have struggled to find a solution and whoever plays there seems to go missing also if you take your chances the game is over well before the end.
Another crap display of football, yes ok we won , but come on lads the performance was awful , slow , pedestrian , sh it passing , & for me boring , terrible stuff .
A bit harsh all of this reaction I think,
We won the game, deservedly so and kept a clean sheet. The squad is down to its bare bones. Do people expect we'll just turn up and wallop these teams 4 or 5 nil?
Last night and Saturday is purely about winning, it doesn't matter how we play in my opinion. Its just about results at this stage of the season.
Having said that last night reminded me a bit of the Blackpool home game which wasn't a classic, but started us off on a huge winning run. When this team loses 3 or 4 starters, which is where we are right now, then we'll always struggle because our squad is generally quite poor. But if we can put a bit of momentum together and get those players back we have half a chance of top 6 and promotion. If Corberan does that given the state of the club when he walked in, it will be the biggest managerial achievement of any Albion manager in my lifetime I think.
Not necessarily (.......morning Al', good to catch up at Hull on Friday despite the result 😊 ).
Here's a list of Albion's leading League scorers when gaining promotion from the Championship to the Premier League.
2001-2002.
Scott Dobie 10 League goals (one nil to the Albion, one nil to the Albion......!).
2003-2004.
Lee Hughes 11 League goals.
2007-2008.
Kevin Phillips 22 League goals.
2009-2010.
Joint top scorers. Chris Brunt and Graham Dorrans 13 League goals each.
2019-2020.
Joint top scorers. Austin and HRK 10 League goals each.
During the modern era our goals have generally been spread throughout the team when gaining promotion to the top flight.
In contrast to this Dwight Gayle top scored with 23 League goals closely followed by Jay Rodriguez on 22 when we lost out to the unmentionables in the playoffs.
That's one promotion from five where our leading scorer has slotted more than 13 League goals. You need goals to go up but it doesn't matter who gets them, if you haven't got goals though you need a tight defence to compensate.
Promotions are often ground out on the back of one nils' like last night, such a pity that in typical Albion style we were so charitable as to give the rest of the division such a glorious head start to the season.
Despite everything we've still got a shout at the playoffs, whatever happens should we make them happens whether we have a 20 goal a season forward or not. Stay safe until the next time we meet 😎 .
Wasn't the best performance, but we hit the woodwork 3 times and O'Shea could have scored with a header.
Wigan have only lost one in the last 6 including a draw with Norwich,
COYB
From watching last night’s highlights we looked distinctly average and mediocre.
A real step up on the Hull performance.
