It's was pretty clear from the press reports when we signed Woodman that he'd been promised he'd be first choice if he came. Obviously that would be qualified, he's not going to be immune from being dropped if he plays very badly, but he was told that he was coming as the preferred option.
Whether or not he impressed in the first few days of training is therefore a red herring. The logic is pretty simple. We had a keeper the management team were not keen to take a risk on. In order to persuade one that they felt more comfortable with to come here at short notice, they had to offer assurances he would play. After all, who's going to uproot themselves for half a season to sit on a different bench for a smaller club?
You can take the view that this is unfair to Rogers, and maybe Deek would agree. However he has his priorities as a football manager, and maximising his team's chances of getting results are further up the list than being nice to Danny Rogers.
If McInnes was being consistent & treating both the keepers the same, Woodman will be dropped for Motherwell.
He’s not allowed to though :)
It could actually be un-settling our back line. Now I don't know what goes on behind the scenes but is it possible that Woodman coming up and displacing Danny could not be sitting very well with some of his team mates who may have wanted him to get his chance.
I keep seeing a lot of niggling and arguing going on between him and the defence. I'm just blethering of course.
I wonder how many managers would drop a young goalkeeper after the games he has played which we won to replace him with another young goalkeeper who was on loan to a team that got battered last season? Woodman is certainly not better than Rodgers and if McInnes had balls he would reinstate Rodgers.
Nothing like giving our young players a bit confidence and belief instead of rubbishing them by dropping them for little.
One way or another, we're now a two a game against team since Big Joe went out (clean sheet against Hamilton being teh exception).
Danny Rogers at Dumbarton: At the end of the season, he scooped the 'Dumbarton Terrace' and Baxter Ramsay (club sponsor) Player of the Year awards as well as the prestigious Sonstrust Young Player of the Season accolade.
During his loan spell at Falkirk he was announced as part of the PFA Scotland Championship Team of the Season
He has served his time well and should have remained as No1 keeper until he f#kt up big style like any other. He knows the players and "style"😂of play of his defense and is also a full Republic of Ireland International....no offence Mr Woodman but we are not here to develop your career! Unfortunately it looks like we are not going to develop Rogers career either🤔
Was all for giving Woodman a game as the reviews of him were good but he is no better than Rogers. 2nd goal was criminal. Id rather we had a 1 legged Lewis in the cup than either of them
