MALKY Mackay is confident Callum McManaman will be able to handle the constant speculation over his future in the same professional manner as Shaun Maloney.
McManaman continues to be linked with Premier League outfit West Brom, who have already failed with one bid in the region of £4million.
However, Tony Pulis is believed to be ready to test Wigan’s resolve to hold on to their most prized asset as he reshapes his Baggies squad.
Maloney has been in this situation for a number of weeks, with speculation linking him to a number of interested clubs.
Latics even agreed a fee last week with Leicester City, only for the deal to fall through on personal terms.
The following day, Maloney came off the bench to inspire Latics to a 1-1 draw against Blackburn, laying on the equaliser for James McClean before hacking a late Rovers effort off the line in the dying seconds.
The Rovers game completed McManaman’s three-match ban following his recent sending-off against Sheffield Wednesday.

West Bromwich Albion have tabled an improved bid of £4.5m for Wigan's Callum McManaman, according to reports today.
Baggies Head Coach Tony Pulis - who is known to be keen to reshape his squad during the January transfer window - had previously had another offer knocked back by the Championship side.
The Telegraph reports today that Wigan are keen to hold out for their £6m asking price, but that Albion are hopeful that this new bid will tempt the Latics into selling the winger. The newspaper also suggest that Albion may be willing to offer a player plus the cash.
Pulis has already set to work on slimming down his squad ahead of a number of potential new arrivals; it was announced yesterday that Sebastian Blanco and Silvestre Varela have both left the Hawthorns after a matter of months at the club.

The Latics are holding out for their £6m asking price, but West Brom may not be prepared to go that far with Pulis likely to have other targets up his sleeve. The West Brom boss has already begun to remodel the squad he inherited from former head coach Alan Irvine just three weeks ago. Sebastian Blanco and Silvestre Varela have both left the Hawthorns after a matter of months at the club, with Blanco heading to Argentina with San Lorenzo and Porto loan winger Varela to join Parma for the rest of the season.

QPR are ready to make a last-ditch bid to land Wigan Athletic star Callum McManaman, Goal understands.
It is understood that boss Harry Redknapp travelled to the DW Stadium to watch Wigan’s Championship clash with Huddersfield Town on Saturday in order to watch the 23-year-old in the flesh.
Wigan lost 1-0, with McManaman substituted after an hour, but the winger was still the best Latics player on show and his performance is understood to have been enough for Redknapp to give the green-light to QPR making an offer.
The west Londoners are hoping that West Brom fail in their attempt to lure the 23-year-old to the Hawthorns over the next 24 hours before making what will be their final move for the player.
Leicester City and Hull City are also believed to be monitoring the chase for McManaman, who rose to
