Remember, Remember ......
Calling all Crewe fans.......
Remember, Remember 3rd Nov 1979.
Forget the events surrounding Guy Fawkes attempts to blow up the Houses of Parliament on 5th Nov 1605, but cast your mind back, if you are old enough, to an event that took place on 3rd Nov 1979.
The Alex were struggling in the old Fourth Division. In fact before their home game against Bradford City (who were 3rd in the league), they had only won on two occasions and were rock bottom of the table.
Enter, a man from Sheffield United for a fee of £30,000. Not Mr Fawkes, but Mike GUY. His home debut against Bradford proved to be spectacular, for Guy set Gresty Road alight with a sparkling display, scoring both goals in the 2-0 victory.
I wonder who will ignite tomorrow's Bonfire Night match (Tuesday 5th Nov) against Everton Under 21s? We certainly need someone to add the same quality that Guy did on that Saturday afternoon, 40 years ago.
