oh well seems that contracts really mean bugger all.
Ohh well ideed... and thats all I can say really.
There was a time when I would have been absolutely gutted at this happening, but not now not anymore.
And at least we won't have to pay extra compo to him now for when the inevitable sack happened, and I think that was close to be honest.
Thanks Hecky, for everything...maybe it’s time to get new ideas now.
Left a bad taste though, with it being Leeds
LEEDS UNITED are set to finalise the appointment of Paul Heckingbottom as their new head coach tonight after activating a clause to release him from his contract at Barnsley.
The Oakwell boss is due to conclude negotiations at Elland Road this evening and should be installed in time to take charge of training at Thorp Arch tomorrow morning.
Leeds have moved quickly to recruit Heckingbottom, less than 24 hours after sacking Thomas Christiansen and just three days after the 40-year-old signed a new contract with Barnsley.
The former Bradford City and Sheffield Wednesday defender put pen to paper on an improved rolling deal at Oakwell on Friday but his contract included a release clause and Leeds moved to finance it earlier today having sacked Christiansen late last night.
Royston-born Heckingbottom, who grew up as a Barnsley supporter and played for the club between 2006 and 2008, has been manager at Oakwell since 2016.
He took charge of his 100th competitive last month and secured an improved deal following the recent takeover of Barnsley.
Despite the regular sale of key players, Heckingbottom took Barnsley to promotion via the League One play-off final in his first six months in the job and also claimed the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
His side finished 14th in the Championship last season but have struggled this term and lie fourth from bottom in the table after one win from 16 games.
Leeds, however, see Heckingbottom as a highly-talented coach and are ready to install him as Christiansen’s successor. He turned down the Sunderland job earlier this season and was strongly linked with Nottingham Forest last month before ruling himself out of the running.
Christiansen was sacked on Sunday after 35 games in charge with Leeds seven points off the Championship play-offs.
Well what a surprise. I’m totally surprised that Leeds want him they are obviously not results driven. It’s a win win for us we don’t have to pay compensation following his dismissal (which was inevitable) and have been compensated for his contract.
Although I never thought he was the brightest button in the box even I am surprised he has gone to what will inevitably be a short term job at Leeds United.
The thing is Rev he's never had the kind of money you can deliver , he's never had full control of recruitment and he's managed the club with an age restriction set at 25 or below .
Every decent player we've had got sold on , despite all this we haven't been in the bottom 3 yet despite having to bring in 14 new players last summer .
I'd look at the above for what it is , he's still inexperienced and he's made mistakes but all in all I think given time he will do alright at Elland Road .
What are your realistic expectations for the rest of the season ?
what betting on a foreign manager next maybe from nice
If he takes the Leeds job he's in for a rough ride if he doesn't get of to a good start because I can't imagine there's many if any of their fans doing cartwheels over his appointment and they'll be more than ready to let him know it.
My advice to Hecky is get a long contract and don't move house.
