I was speaking to a local guy in his 70's who told me he knew Dougie Sharpe. A good looking boy popular with the local ladies apparently. Anyway, he once asked him if he had regretted not moving from Queens to possibly earn more money. Dougie replied not at all because he and his lady friends never paid for drinks in Dumfries and never queued up for the dancing or anything else . Local celebrity status has its bonuses. Dont know if this is correct but the guy told me Dougie had died pretty young .
Sharpe died in 1974, aged 48...

Personally cannot get my head around the directors picking Billy McLaren to go straight into the Hall of Fame as in my humble opinion most if not all of the 11 that Joe Public has to pick 1 from are far better candidates - Law, Reid, Mallan, O'Neill, Nobby, Barney, Jockey etc.
