Yesterday we were well and truly mugged by a very streetwise team who rode their luck. Our lads were naive and raw. The influence of the referee yesterday cannot be underestimated. He ruled out a seemingly legitimate goal by Gallagher, denied us a stonewall handball penalty and wrongly yellow carded Carroll. Carroll made a high challenge yes, but then tried to pull out when he saw the County player challenging. The lad went down clutching his face only to jump up miraculously and celebrate with a teammate when Carroll was given a yellow and then red card. Did we shoot ourselvs in the foot? Most certainly yes, but the referee had a huge influence on the eventual outcome.
I don't think you can blame the ref for that...Carroll while pulling out still clattered into the guy's upper body with his knee. It was a yellow all day long. The penalties would have been incredibly soft if given. We were a little unlucky with Gallagher but he had his hand up so in real time I can see why the referee thought he shoved him.
Our own failings were much greater and more decisive than the ref imho.
If we revert to 'ref blaming' we're scrapin the barrel ain't we? Team started slowly and never got out of 2nd gear. I was surprised given the games before. Shared blame of players / Mgt IMO.
