Probably not a million miles from the original Ogren/Asgar plan, but with better resource/contacts and potentially better executed. Emphasis being on potential.
Well something has to change because where we are now is frightening, so I'm all for it personally.[/QUOTE
Something needs to change, a new regime doesn't necessarily mean it will change for the better mad as that sounds. You could probably copy and paste comments from just before Ogren came in and use them now. Look at some of the cowboys Dundee had during the last 40 years. Ogren has certainly put money in, and I think his heart is in the right place, I think that needs to be said, but unfortunately he is clueless about football, and seems to be less and less invested emotionally and financially. I don't think putting money in lets you off the hook either if you are in a worse position financially because you have wasted the money you invested.
The fact it's worked with the club in Belgium inspires me a little more than Ogren and his Yankee doodle dandy baseball or 'soccer' nonsense tbh. Nothing is certain but we are in the land of prayers and pipe dreams so I'd welcome either the Brighton guy or the Brentford one with open arms right now.
I agree with your comments about the B&B lot.
We are all desperate to see the back of Ogren. And I suppose the reality is that he will sell to the highest bidder.
Personally, I would rather see our club in the hands of group of known United fans with some business acumen and drive to promote the interests of DUFC. I'm not for being a feeder club for any other club.
United have such a massive fan base ,it’s imperative the federation look at ways of buying out ogren and becoming a fan owned club, led by guys like jimmy fyffe and other local businessman
I'm for any business ownership model where we hire a manager who knows what he's doing and develops a playing style and identity that wins us matches.
Whether that's with a southern based partnership or a local one I'm not too fussed really.
But, either way the whole structure needs a complete overhaul and the academy probably the first place to start.
Our academy is much the same as anyone's else's. A lot of work and recourses went into making it an elite tier 1 one.
Where Fat toney and the club failed was getting enough coaches with the skills to get those players to make the leap from Academy to first team football in SCOTLAND
1)
We have the manager, assistant coach and Dave Bowman. Thats not enough to give individual specialist coaching to these kids on the fringe they get left to their own devices too much. and With all due respect whats Dave bowman going to teach you ?
2)
We possibly dont recruit enough of the right kind of Pro's to have those kids realise their potential. who is going to look upto Tony Watt for example? He is more likely to blame you on the pitch than talk you thou games
Under Asgar we didn't seem interested in developing players for the first team, strategy seemed to be give them some game time asp so we can punt them to an Premiership academy as soon as possible. I always thought that was a false economy, you get a guy in your first team for a season or two, and he shows up well, you still get all the same add ons and what not you get as you would selling him at 16, difference is they have to pay a here and now transfer too.
It's a lot easier bedding a youngster into a settled and decent team, look at Sheep, looked ok couple of seasons ago in a well organised defence, regressed dramatically thereafter. Not saying he would have gone on to be a superstar, in fact I thought he was on par with Liam Smith, and only reason a lot of the time people harked on about him was because he WASN'T liam Smith, and out the team, but could probably have turned into an average SPL player.
Think Courts leaving messed things up too, he was familair with all these players, Meekison was starting to establish himself under Courts, change of manager just set all that back. Our youngsters have been largely uninspiring unfortunately, maybe not all down to them, Miller-Thompson seems on of the few who actually looks like he can come in and make a mark. Strangely the only time I had any hope in our youngsters was when we played Rangers when COVID savaged our team, I was really impressed with the team that day. What the hell happened to Moore btw? They actually played decent football too, I wondered if it was because their styles fit into a certain manner and being surrounded by like players actually strenghtened them as a unit.
