Diesels - test inconsistencies but banned

Interesting article on anomalies in Car testing and bans.
This is far too long for IDWT!
The Greens and SNP are banning older diesels from our town centre soon. So this is personal. The article also mentions Burnley as having a problem with NO2 levels

In 2001 Gordon Brown gave incentives to buy diesels as they emit far less CO2 and so global warming would reduce. More recently NO2 emissions and health concerns arose and particulates so new standards were introduced by the EU.these were based on lab conditions not on the road.
However the VW scandal showed the testing system to be flawed.
You can’t just go to an MOT station for a test.
The best way of finding out what a car emits is to test it in real-world driving, with a PEMS - portable emissions measurement system.
The problem is one of these costs thousands and only two companies do them and they do them for the car companies so won’t do private ones. This guy found one private provider and it seems many new cars do not meet the new NO2 standards ... on the road.
This is a real hornets nest. Meanwhile we forget about global warming!

Ignorance is strength....as for the plot to succeed - dissenting voices must be silenced !

but as for town centres - there''ll soon be little more to fill up in than coffee shops - can just wireless in the other orders from the comfort of the armchair...or bog even - and once were fitted with the compulsory microchip...then what reality ? - as our imaginary self can be anything,anywhere - so if liked, could journey to town in an old bugatti and visit scrooge while levitating on a giant turkey - virtually....and in fact , being knowhere will actually render our selves/shells and it's accompanying plumbing, pointless - that excess baggage can then be treated as a waste of valuable resources, so unessential - as there'll be no good reason remaining to keep feeding it - that then time for the great powers to upload us into the bulk data machine - is all for the good of the planet of course....being food Genetically Modified itself out of existance - and as fuel - is what will be stealthily happening to older cars - with all the changes in the structure of these propellants, the engines can't keep up - will deteriorate, corrode away and drift off into the scrapheap of history.
though on the bright side - same will eventually come to the plugged in newcomers - it just hasnt happened yet.

It will be sad to see vintage and veteran cars disappear. Even sadder when my 1 mile run to my daughters through the town centre becomes a 4 mile detour round it Taking four times the fuel. For what purpose, just to feed the Green machine because the SNP need them to implement their policies so this is the quid pro quo from folk who represent no constituency voters but get some regional seats through proportional representation.
There is an air monitor at the Town centre which shows air quality was below standard on one day (but only on one standard) for the whole of last year.

was just recently talking to a family member on the subject of old cars - Colner....he's something of a collector, but is now starting to offload some - just keeping certain ones - he has the idea that...if not allowed on the road, then there'll be "special" private circuits built, that those with them can trailer their classics to a track to run and show off....by then, I wonder what the price of a litre of fuel would be squeezed up to?
Its all one way traffic - and is where the investment is....and as long as they're given the mandate, they'll keep fiddling and fuddling it to their desired outcome - all in our name.
