I went to Edgbaston to watch Warwickshire play Kent in the 60's and Underwood was just making a name for himself. I remember watching him bowl and for a spin bowler he chucked the ball down pretty fast compared to most spin bowlers. I still love to see a good spin bowler on rather than fast bowlers.
Spent a lot of my youth at Canterbury watching 'deadly'. He was the only English spin bowler who ever put the wind up the Aussies. RIP Deadly, you were truly a Man of Kent.
I remember going to Highfield Road c 1968 (we lost); meanwhile England and Deadly Derek were spinning the Aussies out at the Oval. Every where I went in Cov pre match there seemed to be a radio playing & every time I listened, he seemed to be taking another wicket! RIP Derek
A truly great bowler, incredible accuracy; RIP the great Deadly Derek Underwood.
