I’d suggest that they weren’t earthed up into dreels big enough to allow the tubers to expand, and possibly lacking irrigation.
Next week: “Ye canna eat flooers” and other 1960s gardening quotes from my late father (may contain strong profanity); beetroot, and its cantankerous refusal to grow in my plots; netting tatties? Fuucking magpies.
