Not sure that BOTH were originally grown in somebody's back garden, but the one that was inside the gates must have been.
In the 1949 pic I think that black square in the Kop-County Road corner must be the tunnel under the then recently built terrace extension. That corner section was demolished in 1980 and the Kop was re-concreted.

Great photos utm. I can't remember seeing either of them before. Imagine living in those terraced house running parallel to the Main Stand on a match day with 40,000 packed into the ground.Don't think these have been posted before
