    1940s pics of Meadow Lane

Don't think these have been posted before

From above 20th February 1946, still playing in a wartime league (though the FA Cup had been resumed by this point).

August 15th 1949, five days before we kicked off a title winning season, clinched by beating Fword at home in April the following year.

Am I right in thinking that the 2 trees in piccy, (one that was just inside the gates but has now been removed and the other that is just outside the ground) were actually in some terraced house garden?

    I'm sure UTM will know.

Not sure that BOTH were originally grown in somebody's back garden, but the one that was inside the gates must have been.

In the 1949 pic I think that black square in the Kop-County Road corner must be the tunnel under the then recently built terrace extension. That corner section was demolished in 1980 and the Kop was re-concreted.

Great photos utm. I can't remember seeing either of them before. Imagine living in those terraced house running parallel to the Main Stand on a match day with 40,000 packed into the ground.

Almost same spot as 1946. Great pics. Odd to think my 13 year old Dad was out there somewhere in the Meadows.
