    Flawed Scottish Government 2022 census

I have just received a letter through the post advising me that the Scottish Government 2022 Census day in Scotland is Sunday 20th March 2022 but I can complete my census questionnaire online as soon as I receive this letter.
    This is wrong.
Normal Governments ask for every person living in their country to complete their Census form on the same day not almost three weeks in advance.
However we are not dealing with a normal Government in Scotland.
The number of people living in on Sunday 20th March 2022 will be wrong if people complete their 2022 census form as soon as they receive their 2022 Census letter as some people will have sadly died whilst babies will have been born in the intervening period.

If everyone waits until 20th March is there maybe a possibility that the site will crash so the idea is that they get as many to complete the census in advance of census day?

For the record, because I know you like facts and accuracy, 'normal governments' ask for household status on Census Day which is not necessarily the day that you need to complete the census; it just defines the status of the household on that stated day. I would expect that status to differ by a fraction of a percentage point between, for example, 2nd March and 20th March so the effect on the overall data is likely to be highly insignificant to negligible.

I hope that you filled out previous censuses on the precise day that it was scheduled when done by paper and post - you know, for the sake of accuracy. Of course you did, sorry for questioning it.

I personally tend to do anything like this immediately I receive it so now that I have my access code I'll do it ASAP. The chances of my wife giving birth in the intervening days are pretty much zero and the chances any of the three of us at this address will die is (hopefully) also pretty much negligible. I also have no intention of taking in any lodgers so I reckon that just like 99.99999999999999999999% of the population my household status today will not change by 20th March.

Anyone intending moving house by 20th March will likely know the address they'll be living at that day and will get their code when they move in. Hopefully they'll know the size of family they're taking with them.

You really are pushing the limits of reality calling this a flawed census for the reasons you've given but hey, any excuse to kick the Scottish Government even if it's not deserved.

    That is the closing date.
Previous U.K. Government censuses have been completed in paper form with every person in the U.K. completing the form on the Census Day not over two weeks in advance or over one month after the laid down date of the census.

Oh come on Islay, even you have to admit it was very easy to pick fault with.

No, no doubt I'll get a reminder but I genuinely don't do anything like that online, they can send me one thru the post

    I'll just lie anyway

I declined to answer the optional questions on gender but put in the comments that the questions offended me.
