    goalkeepers

One thing that I don't understand is why keepers punch the ball when it is easier to catch it(G Neville mentioned it last night). all the great keepers very rearly punched it(shilton, banks, bonetti, pat jennings who for me was the greatest ever in the world, he used to catch them with one hand, and many more, to many to mention. it has nothing to do with the ball either, they have gloves made for catching that are massive. they are scared to or simply not that good these days and if coaches tellthem to punch it they are puddled

They are coached like that from a young age now, the modern ball moves around a lot and to try and catch it can sometimes cause a spill and an easy goal for a poacher

I personally prefer a keeper to catch it, but then I also prefer tackling, no simulation, less managerial sackings ect ect ect,

    Times have changed

We really had 4 super goalkeepers at our club in a row.

Montgomery, Shilton, Woods and Van Breukelen.

I still couldn't get over Cloughie selling Shilton on

Woods was never first choice, he was reserve keeper to Shilts
