Kevin Nolan lined up for manager's role at Leyton Orient....

FORMER Wanderers captain Kevin Nolan is set to become player-manager of League Two Leyton Orient.

The 34-year-old midfielder has been without a club since leaving West Ham at the end of last season and has repeatedly been linked with a move back to Bolton.

It is believed one consortium looking to buy the club had agreed a deal to bring him back in a player-coach capacity but protracted takeover talks have offered a chance for the Os to make their move.

Nolan, who made 345 appearances and scored 50 goals for Wanderers before leaving for Newcastle United in a £4million deal in January 2009, had been discussing a playing deal at Brisbane Road.

I wanted him to replace Lennon as player/manager but it looks like we have missed the boat again that has been our problem over the years we haven't made the big decisions quickly enough!

I'm sure that the reason Lennon is still with us is purely a financial decision in so much we couldn't pay up his contract. Also I believe that if the club felt it could have dismissed him when news of his fling was made public they would have done so. They would have taken legal advice and no doubt they were advised that they were leaving themselves open to a law suit. Whether Nolan would have been the answer is something else.

Completely agree. This is the problem with the current plight; everything is in limbo until we get some sort of resolution one way or another.

By the way, I would have welcomed Nolan back as a player, but as player-manager? That's one hell of a gamble to take.
